Dear Dan and mid-60s Buick parts hounds,

The 64-67 Chevelle/El Camino automatic floor shifter boot is the same part as the 65-67 Skylark or GS with automatic & long floor console.

Both are Group 4.015, Part # 3843288

This boot is reproduced, and available from suppliers such as OPGI.  Part #CH27681

I got a reply from my contact at Original Parts Group and he confirmed this and added some more info:

The shift boot interchange is quite an interesting find.

So, to give away a little “inside” information: that boot has been determined by R&D to fit not only 1965-66 Gran Sport models, but also 1964-66 Cutlass models—look for both of those updates in 2017

So if you have a friend with a Cutlass, you can give them a pointer on this part as well.

I was happy to get a reply.  It shows that even a "big" company like OPGI is listening to car guys like us.

Cheers, Edouard  :occasion14:

Edouard:

Can we connect to discuss your contact at OPGI? I'd like to see if they are interested in carrying my lenses & gaskets.  Thanks!

Let me scoot him an email and ask.  He isn't that high up at OPGI and I don't know if OPGI is willing to deal with smaller outfits, but it certainly can't hurt to ask.

Cheers, Edouard

In my defense, yes I am a small operation, but the lenses are factory-made by a large plastics company, and the gaskets are made by a skilled craftsman. Please keep me posted, and thank you for your help!

A promised, I scooted him an email and we'll just have to see.  He isn't anybody very high in the company, he just helped me out with identifying some parts, so all he can do is forward such info up the chain of command.  We'll just have to see!

Still, he does seem to have a soft spot for nice looking Buicks so I included this photo along with an update on my trusty wagon:

It doesn't solve anything, but I think the world would be happier place with a few more classic car pics! :laughing7:

Cheers, Edouard  :occasion14:
