No offense taken by anyone... I'd like my pad back because I know it is an excellent rust-free desert core with all screw inserts, no welded studs (see prior posts) and no other repairs. I labeled my core with my name prior to sending it in. I've also mailed a note to Premier (with a photo) explaining my desire to receive my original core. I've attached a picture of the core I sent in, in case anyone receives mine. I'm not going to lose sleep over it, but there you have it. Thanks everyone.

Thanks Dan.

So if anyone receives my core (labeled "65 Lark" in white paint), I will pay the shipping to swap out pads. THANK YOU

Does anyone know the process that these dash pads go thru to get restored ?
I would think that the metal backing must go thru some kind of cleaning process making it hard to even tell which was which .
maybe someone has had one done before that can shed some light on this .
I know mine was very nice except for 2 very small cracks in the vinyl , I was even hesitant to send it in as a core but figured I,d rather get it done now rather than later .
Thanks again Loren for making this happen .

I communicated with the manufacturer in regards to getting a specific pad returned.

The reply was:

It can get hard keeping track of customers cores. The cores all get stripped and inspected. A core with no major issue then goes on the shelves to be used.
If bad or marginal, we [ PMI ] contact the customer and ask what they would like to do.

If a customer insists on getting their original core back, we [ PMI ] charge a fee to walk a core through the plant because it requires additional time outside of the normal process.

So, with additional cost, it is possible to get a specific core returned to the person that sent it in.

Thanks for all the legwork on this Loren,
I etched my email,s.s. Number, address, mothers maiden name, VIN number, and password for 65gs.com on the back, but I guess if I get another one back I will assume someone got mine. But really,I do get it that no one wants a rusty pad back. I am sending mine in this week so if you have a questionable core I do have a few.

Thanks Loren,

I'm just asking questions so we all have a clear understand of the process and know one is disappointed.

Its always nice to get the same core back because you know it fits your car but its not a deal breaker for me.

My pad should be shipping out soon.

Hi all,

I would imagine that the core would have any rust removed prior to the new pad being molded to it.

I  know no one wants to get a nice pad with a rusty surface to mount to.

Also I  would think any corrosion would intefer with the molding process.

Loren,

Am I under the correct understanding?

Regards,
Jim

Regards,

First off, I understand the concerns brought up here.  This venture is a bit beyond things I've previously attempted and didn't anticipate some of those concerns.
I also didn't consider the time investment on my part with all the emails and PMs.  Oh well, it is what it is.

From the conversations I've had with Premier, after the pad has been stripped to the base metal, it is cleaned and inspected. The process of cleaning wasn't covered in depth, but it seems there isn't hours spent on the cleaning.
One of the pads I sent in had a fair amount of deep rust but no holes.  I was told that one would be in the "contact customer" category. I failed to take pictures prior to shipping, sorry.

At this point, I hope that when it is all done, everyone is satisfied.

There is a video on youtube of the process used by Just Dashes. DPP may do the process differently.
Looks labor intensive and the specialized equipment explains the high cost!

DPP does offer a repo '67 Skylark/GS pad for $425. Unfortunately for us '66 owners, 66 and 67 pads are different.

I would say you're right Jim,and there has to be some type of de-rusting/cleaning process. I just got mine sent out today and I really did etch my name in it. It was a nice core, but I don't think it was as nice as the one pictured above. I think from past experience that they would simply reject a core if it was not to their standard. It is my guess that they will want to retain a certain number of cores once this project starts and I think we will benefit from this initial run because none of us are sending in junk ones so there are no overruns available at this point.
