Dear Walt, JimL, and mid-60s Buick parts seekers,

It's my bad but I can't seem to locate your post on V-8 Buick.  Could you give us a pointer?  I'm curious to know how the "natives" over there received it.

http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?314674-1965-Skylark-Dash-Pad-Project

Thanks Walt!

I decided to post V-8 Buick my question about whether or not you could retrofit a 1965 dash pad into a 1964 Buick A-body:

http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?314791-Retrofit-a-1965-dash-pad-into-a-1964-Buick-A-body&p=2619164#post2619164

Even if proposed swap is completely impossible, it is the sort of idea that tends to generate a conversation.  On that very busy board, asking a question seems to generate more activity than offering them help.  Just the nature of the psychology over there. . . . .  :dontknow:

Cheers, Edouard  :occasion14:

P.S. I wish I could contribute more directly to this group buy, but when I sent my trusty wagon's dash pad to our local upholster to make whatever repairs were needed, all he could do was wipe off some dried 303 protectant!  The dash pad was perfect after (at the time) 48 years!  As if there was any doubt, keeping your car in the garage most of the time will really prolong the life of every component!

I would send in two cores if someone wants to commit to one. I do not see this getting any cheaper in the future and chances are not too good that these will ever be reproduced.

With having two 65s, I suppose I could use a spare.  And I have a useable core.  I'll be number 12.

A great weekend to all!

Good thought Chuck. I might be in for one too. Believe Loren has to confirm that the grain is correct yet. Also, for each pad over the initial 12 believe we all get a discount because the next batch would have a lower cost per pad.

Is the above correct Loren ?

Yes, it is correct that the cost would go down.
There is a sizeable cost to making the mold and the initial run is bearing that cost. In regards to end cost per pad,  it would depend on the total count of the initial run. As it stands the price is for an initial 12 pads. One or two more may not have a significant change in that price.

I've been told DPP has 3 different grains of vinyl. I received a sample of one of the vinyl on Tuesday.  The grain is not correct and I have already spoken to them about it.
As a result, I removed a section of vinyl from one of my pads and sent it to DPP. Waiting to hear back on that.

Lastly, expected time frame would be approximately 3 months once the actual project is started.  There is also the details in regards to getting the cores  and payment to DPP to work out.

Presently that is all the information I have.

Hoping this project will continue and I have not created false hope,

I am very interested in this deal but have not finalized the purchase of the 65 I am considering yet due to hurricane type weather where the car is located. now that you have your minimum required  to proceed how long do I have to get onboard before it's too late?

I think you may have some time. Details still have to be ironed out with DPP.

Hey Loren,

Have you gotten any word on the vinyl?

When I did my seats Legendary sold me some Madrid patterned vinyl for my arm rest which I believe is correct for the seats and arm rest, not sure on the dash but maybe a option for a source of material.

I would like to commit, but still need a few weeks before my bank account to say yes. Please let me know before you pull the trigger.

Regards,
Jim

Well, funny thing you should ask about the vinyl.
Yesterday, I received the three samples of vinyl that the manufacturer uses and they have a vinyl that appears to be a very good match to the original.

With that said, we are looking good for this to proceed. I'm waiting for a return call from the manufacturer to answer some final questions I have about proceeding.

Thanks for asking Jim,

Re: Dash Pad reproduction for '65 Skylark/ Gran Sport - IT'S GO TIME !!
« Reply #59 on: October 18, 2016, 01:33:53 PM »
    Here we go!

The count down is ended . It is launch time to go on this.

I just got off the phone with the manufacturer and I have nothing but good news.

First off,
I need to send the total cost to the manufacturer in one payment. That said, I need collect payment of $464/ pad plus $35.00 return shipping . If you want a color other than black, add $25.00

The quicker I can send payment and a pad for making the mold, the faster this gets started.
Paypal or personal check to me.

Secondly, colors other than black are an additional $ 25.00 and must be included with payment.

You will need to send your core directly to the manufacturer.  This will keep from having additional shipping charges by not sending them to me. Pm or email me for the address of the manufacturer.

At this time it is looking to be approximately a three month lead time for turn around.  Your finished pad will be shipped directly from the manufacturer to you. Return shipping will run $35.00

Total to me is $499.00 plus color charge of $25.00 if necessary.
