Windows 10 and Emoticons
« on: July 27, 2016, 10:47:38 AM »
Am I the only one that's having a problem using the emoticons on this site since upgrading my PC to Windows 10?  I click on any of them and there is absolutely no response; it's just like I didn't click on anything.  Wish I could solve this.....

Meanwhile, back to the old way :-)

Cheers!

Try another browser? (Re: Windows 10 and Emoticons)

Dear Chuck and mid-60s Buick victims of half-baked technology,

Am I the only one that's having a problem using the emoticons on this site since upgrading my PC to Windows 10?  I click on any of them and there is absolutely no response; it's just like I didn't click on anything.  Wish I could solve this.....

That is very strange.  The forum software isn't doing anything especially exotic although it does use JavaScript to insert the emoticons.  You could take look at the settings on your browser to see if perhaps there are some extreme security settings that are turning off the JavaScript.  Something else to try is downloading another browser and seeing if the behavior is any different.

I hate to admit it, but I can't cope with the Internet anymore without having at least two browsers.  Some websites don't work properly with Firefox.  Sadly, that's how broken the Internet is these days . . . .

Oh well, . . . . Edouard

Would have to agree with Edouard, I have Windows 10 and no issues with emoticons.
I did notice that the little emoticon picture doesn't appear till the post is actually on the thread.

Dear Loren, Mark, John, and mid-60s Buick users of "less mature technology." . . . .

I did notice that the little emoticon picture doesn't appear till the post is actually on the thread.

The emoticons should appear on the preview, but they won't appear on the text as you type.  This forum software is more simple minded than its rival and you have to preview in order to see how your post will finally look like.  There is slicker forum software out there, but I personally prefer SMF software.  It is more robust and predicable.  The only thing I do miss is not being able to put YouTube videos in the post.  That feature might be coming to SMF though.

You are tellin' me?  I got a Mac II back in 1988 and never looked back!  :glasses9:  It is too bad that Apple really hasn't recovered from the death of Steve Jobs though.

Oh well, . . . . . Edouard

Chuck, not having a problem.  But if you clear cache it will probably take care of it.  To do this on an internet window, like your home page when you sign onto the internet, on the upper right side of the page you will see an icon that looks like a gear.  Click on the gear.  You will get a drop down menu, click on Internet Options on the drop down menu.  It opens another window.  In that window about 1/2 way down you will see Browsing History and some options, click on the button that says Delete.  Wait until it is done doing its thing and then close down all internet windows.  Then open the internet and go back to the site.
Hopefully that should fix the issue you are having.
