« on: June 14, 2008, 10:39:58 AM »
Seemed to have lost my center grill support in the process of reoing my wagon. Might anyone have one they woul d part with? Someone said there are different ones used in 65, my car is a Fremont car.
Thanks

The difference is between the early year '65 cars and later year '65 cars.  In Jan of '65 when the GS came out, all the specials and skylarks convered along with the GS over to crossflow radiators.  The cross flow radiator has a different core support and grille/hood latch support (the latch is different too).   Depending on which type of radiator/core support your car has will determine which one you need.

'66 Skylark 2dr ht 300-2 automatic

Thanks for that input.
I have a 1965 Sport Wagon that I am converting to a 65 Sport Wagon GS, with the 401, SP400 and posi.
My car originally had the early down flow, so I had to graft a cross flow lower core support on to the upper 65
vertical flow core support. So, my guess is I will need the early 65 support unit. I have the latch but can't find the support.
Thanks
Mike

The grille support is the same on a '66, so you can get one off of any '66.  The problem you are going to have is that the top bar on the core support is different too.  If you look up under the front center of it where the hood latch and grill support attach to it, it is made differently. There is a plate welded into it with the nut-certs in it for the hood latch and grill support screws to go into.  The one on the crossflow core support is at a different angle than the one on your downflow top bar.   It also doesn't have the holes in the top for the radiator hold down plate to attach to, but they can easily be drilled.
I don't know if you knew or not, but the top plate is different for a GS than for a regular skylark crossflow car.  It has wider indentions in it for the two rubber pieces that clamp down on the radiator end tanks.    This is because the GS had a 4-core radiator and the regular skylark only had a 2-3 core.   I have a couple of them and could set you up with one if you need it.

its also gonna depend on what size radiator it has, I took mine off and lost it too, so  found a 65 skylark but it had a smaller cradle where the rad sits, so it was to long front to back.
