Dear George and mid-60s Buick caregivers,
I definitely want to find an original steering wheel.
You can find them but the both the wheel and horn bar are difficult to restore. There are outfits can put a new coating on the plastic part of the wheel. The horn bar is what made me give up. It is a fancy chrome part and the chrome is usually badly pitted. I couldn't find a way to restore that. However, if it can be done, somebody on this forum will know how.
Those knobs are hard to pull off. I think I need something like a dent puller to get it off.
Are there any tricks to removing the knobs? Do they just pull-off?
The headlight switch knob is a standard GM design of the time. There is a button on the headlight switch that you press to release the knob. If you can figure that one out, do a search on You-Tube. There is a video on how to remove it.
Windshield wiper knob has a set screw.
The cigarette lighter knob is molded into the housing for the heating element. It should just slide out under it got jammed from years of sitting around.
I hope that helps, Edouard
