Found some more interesting things while dismantling the convertible! It has a 1966 GS MR coded block!which looks good and rebuildable, original was a LT code! Also the rear end is 3.90 four pin posi ! It would launch like a rocket with that rear! , but would be spinning some high RPM's

MR 272 6B 12???? Got to scrape off some more grunge! So it is from a Baltimore built GS! Which is different as not to many Baltimore built cars end up around here! This engine was put in over 30 years ago around here! I have not checked the date codes on the block and heads yet! But I would say it is from a early to mid build 66 GS!

Found some date casting codes on the motor mount pads L28 and M5,Nov.28th 1964 and Dec. 5th 1964 more documentation that this is for sure a early car! Maybe even in the first 100!

More differences with this car! There are no body mount bolts in the rear floor brace that runs in front of the rear seat? Only body biscuits! Also none  on top of the spring mounts? Big body biscuits here also? I know depending on what plant the bolts above the spring mounts are not always used! But no bolts in the rear floor brace? has got me puzzled? Anybody else have this experience? This is a Flint built convertible!

Picked up some finds of the carburetor kind! Got a 4179 stick carb for the Post car! We are hoping this helps it run better as it is the correct 65 GS late production replacement and correct for 66 GS stick carb! Also picked up a set of very rare stick dual quad carbs! :rocker: They will have to get kits and are hoping for the best!as they are very clean and move free!

..... a 4179 stick carb ........ it is the correct 65 GS late production replacement and correct for 66 GS stick carb! ........

Did Buick switch from the 3922 to the 4179 carb for 4 speed GS's during 1965?

I think they were all that way?
The mounts over the axle were a push-in 'puck' type with no thru hole for a bolt.
I'm unsure if the mounts in front of the rear wheels got bolts on the convertibles. I'd have to check the assembly manual.

My Carter book shows only the 3922 as original equipment, but both numbers as service carbs.  If the switch did take place during the 65 model year there should be a service bulletin or other documentation.

My 66 4 speed GS has a 4179S carb, with AAB below, and the service manual shows that one for a non Calif car, and I thinks this is the original carb.

Paging Jon!!
Jon, are you saying the 4179 carb is correct for a late 65 GS 4 speed car? Or just that it fits and works?

There's another 4179 on eBay, $149, condition looks half decent. There is some exhaust corrosion on the bottom surface.

Walt, I missed your post yes and yes ! The 3922 is the production carb for 65 and the 4179 for 66! The one I have is dated August I believe  but the vendors would have probably started making these prior to the next model year I think!? So maybe some got on 65's?
