John, look at the post in general discussion that I started
About 3spd. Driveshaft length! I did what Dan suggested
And it worked out great! I also have a 67 gs 4spd.
Driveshaft in stock that could be cut down, you will need
A 28 fine spline Ford yoke and a conversion u-joint from
Speedway for this!

Chevy truck d/s is what they used!

Different lengths are used in the various GM A-bodies... I bought a GTO d/s that needed to be shortened an inch to fit my GS.

Jim Moses here on the board has an original 3-speed trans and put it side by side with a 65GS 4-speed trans.  The 3-speed is notably shorter than the 4-speed by somewhere between 1-2 inches.    I also know for a fact that the 4-speed driveshaft is 1" shorter than the automatic driveshaft.  An auto driveshaft of course has the rubber insert section at the rear, so not correct for a 3-speed manual car, but length will be close.  That being said, I also know from past experience that the driveshaft from a regular 64-65 special/skylark with the 3-speed on the column transmission is the same length as the automatic driveshaft in a GS or regular Skylark.  So if you can find one of them, it will work with the GS 3-speed setup.   Here is the pic Jim took of the 4-speed GS trans compared to the 3-speed GS trans (front mounting surfaces are lined up for the pic).  Should help answer alot of questions.

Jon , Walt, Brian ,   Thanks for the info , that will help a lot .
That photo of those transmissions really helps in the fact that I see the shifter bolts directly to the tailshaft with NO bracket in between .
The trans I have has a small bracket on it that looks like the shifter bolted to .
Thanks again
I dont think I could have ever put this car together correctly with out the help from everyone on here.

gssizzler ,  thanks for your help . that will save me a lot of time .
I didn't know that the slip yoke was a ford part ! I would have thought they would have used GM splines .

The part# for the yoke is 65-66 gs and is a gm part .The Pontiacs probably
Use the same one but not easy to find either! This is the best  option
And is a new part not a rusty pos! From Dan's suggestion and knowledge
I picked up a almost new driveshaft ! It is from the 99-06 1500 Chevy regular
Cab ,short box 2 wheel drive auto pickups. Do a search on carpart.com
