eyeballing a 65 GS 3 speed thin pillar coupe
« on: August 01, 2015, 01:39:45 PM »
this car isn't far from me. i'm a sucker for post cars and this one being a 3 speed only draws me in more. obviously the car needs everything but is supposed to be rust free. I will probably end up over paying for it  but they aren't getting any easier to find

Sweet, front seats are no problem.

I think I may have at least 3 extra sets.  Imagine you can find some closer though.

well we are a ways apart on price.. he is asking $9000 and I don't think it's worth near that much in current condition..what's your opinion on a reasonable price? keep in mind the car needs everything

If it's "rust free" and all there, about half the 9K is about what it's worth. My opinion.
I would expect a 65 GS car to run & drive at that asking price.
I have seen a few pretty nice 65 GS cars sell for about 5-10K more than that just this year.
Those cars did not need paint, interior work or engine rebuilds.

From the three pictures you posted, it looks solid. But it appears to be sitting on an unpaved area with a tarp over the car. That can trap moisture and cause rust in areas not normally found. I suggest looking at the frame closely.

As you may be aware, door panels are not reproduced and difficult to come by. Keep that in mind.
Looks to need a complete dash wiring harness.

I'd agree that is a bit steep for a non running car missing parts. Just an opinion.

also the condition of all the chrome ,pot metal, and interior parts come into play.for me i look at the parts rather then the car to see what it would take to complete the project.... tail lights could cost 1000 dollars to replace

you guys are thinking the same as me...probably $5000 if all the hard to find stuff is present.  i'd buy a decent 4 door car to donate some of the trim and dash stuff..  right now the car has a small block in it but he is removing that and sending me pics of all the parts and more of the car...

ok 65 Gurus, I need some assistance on real value for this car. it's a true 3 speed thin pillar coupe BUT it needs everything. correct engine is there in pieces, correct trans and manual trans clutch linkage is there. attached are a few pics he sent me. the car is 3 hours away and if he's not even remotely reasonable on price vs value I wont make the drive to look closer.

For me the issue would be how much will it cost to finish the car. My guess for price would be $2500-$4000 for this project. It really should be on the low end. I'm no expert though. Good luck!

4K tops.
Bob is thinking about it the way I am. What will it take to do it to the level you want.
With additional expenditure of 12-16K, financially you will be nearing underwater.
A 3 speed post car is a rarity. Something doesn't look quite right with the clutch linkage
off the bell housing, maybe just bad eyesight.
