The belts that Rob linked to in post #6 are very close to 66 deluxe retractors.
My 66 Impala has those.

Is there such a thing as seat belts vs. deluxe seat belts in 65 ? I am thinking that mine were listed as deluxe when I broke down the info, but my buckles look like the chrome handles with the red decal. There is a junk 66 here that has black plastic buckles and I know  both cars are original.

Yes, there were 2 belt styles in 65. Standard & deluxe.
Standard belts had interior color buckles. Deluxe had the chrome buckles.
Deluxe belts also had retractors for the male end of the belt on the front seat.

I have a couple original belts w/ retractors that have a tag sewn into them at the very end ( next to the retractor ) it looks like the date code is on them .  Or isn,t that the date code ?
Unfortunately the date codes don,t match .

That makes sense, . . . I guess . . . I suppose . . . (Re: seat belts.)

Dear Mark, John, and mid-60s Buick fans,

Yes, there were 2 belt styles in 65. Standard & deluxe.
Standard belts had interior color buckles. Deluxe had the chrome buckles.
Deluxe belts also had retractors for the male end of the belt on the front seat.

Of course, . . . . that makes sense . . . . :icon_scratch:

That's why our 1965 Deluxe Buick Special had . . . . standard belts . . .

I guess I understand that . . . . I suppose . . . I guess . . .

However, the universe has finally gotten its balance back.  I finally got my copy of the OPGI catalog.  I'm in Northern California and OPGI is in . . . . Southern California !???!  I know that there has been tensions between Northern and Southern California for a while but withholding classic car parts catalogs . . . that's going a little too far!!

Cheers, Edouard  :occasion14:

I agree....I always thought driving was more important than preparing to crash. Dan

OK, I have the correct seat belts.  Now I need the correct anchors.  I see a couple of different lengths available for the front inner anchors.  Most are 1.25" shoulder bolts.  The ones out of my car are 2" long.  But I'm sure they were added later.  What's correct?  Both for front and back.....

I have Deluxe belts and the anchors on the door sides are straight bolts with gold cad plating that are "hidden" inside the plastic housings of the retractors.  I assume these might be correct?

My parts car had standard front belts without retractors.  The anchors on it are both shoulder bolts, 2" long on the inner belts and 1 1/4" long at the doors.

Thanks,

Chuck

Hi Chuck,

Here is a photo of some seat belt bolts that I rescued from a 1965 Skylark in a salvage yard. The chrome bolts screw in by the tunnel and the gold cad bolts go at the retractor side by the sill plate.

I can't wait to see your convertible next summer. It's looking sooooo sweet.

John

Chuck, believe that Parts Place carries the correct gold cad and chrome seat belt bolts. Not very expensive.

Thanks for the info.  Pictures of what I have are attached.  Both the parts car and the restoration had the longer bolt on the tunnel.  The parts car, with standard belts, had the shorter bolt at the door openings.  The restoration, with Deluxe belts, had the straight gold cad bolts holding the retractors at the doors.  I guess I'll purchase the short shoulder bolts and a pair of the straight bolts as well.  Interesting that AMK offers GM seat belt shoulder bolts in both lengths, but the thread size is 1/2", not 7/16" as all of these are.  I wonder if that's a typo.....

What about anchors for the rear seat belts?  My restoration came with them, but the ends of the belts were simply bolted together and through the floor under the back seat.  Is this right?  I doubt it......
