Two small bolts needed
« on: May 17, 2009, 12:06:46 PM »
I'm looking for two small bolts that screw into the front bumper and the large plates that the parking light housings mount to. They have a 3/8 hex. I'd take a few extra if someone has any. I completely missed these during the restoration.
Thanks!

I might have these, but am not exactly sure which ones you need.  Can you send a pic of where they go?

You mean the 2 screws per parking light grille? All my cars have philips head stainless screws.

I know which ones you are talking about Mark.  They are self tapping screws that go into the 7-gauge metal structure welded to the back of the bumper.  All they do is hold the sheet metal plates that the signal light attach to until you attach the bumper to the car.  Once mounted on the car, the plates are sandwiched between the bumper and frame mounts.
I had those plates from that CA car, but I am pretty sure I trashed them because I have so much of that stuff piled around.  I know I have a set still attached to a bumper in my building in VA, but may have a set in the room over my garage--I will check.

Brian,

Yep, those are the ones! I was able to salvage one out of the bumper core I bought, but the other broke, even with several attempts with a rosebud tip to get it out. I never knew these were there until I bought this core with the brackets attached.

Pat, I don't have a picture handy. Brian's description is better than mine on the location. If you have any of those screws, I'll take em!

Joe, these screws go in from behind the bumper. It's a little 3/8 hex self tapper that locates the flat plate where the PL housings attach. If the bumper you removed from your 65 still has all the brackets on it, you'll see them from the backside.

Hey guys....
www.amkproducts.com has an incredible assortment of original hardware. They have a PDF catalog online (dialups beware!).  There is a minimum order, but they have so many unique items it's easy to meet the min and get carried away. ;D
