Parts needed
« on: July 14, 2014, 09:39:10 PM »
Hello all.   I am trying to spruce up my car and I was hoping someone might have some/any of the following parts for sale.

1.   (as always) a driveshaft for a four speed.
2.   Nice condition black sun visors.
3.   Excellent condition wing windows (chrome and all)
4.   Rear convertible top trim (looking forward to seeing Dwaine's photos).
5.   An original trunk liner pad - any condition no matter how rough
6.   Spare tire/jack securing hardware/spring
7.   Black dash pad with no cracks
8    Black steering wheel no cracks
9.   Original four speed shift ever with functional lockout.  basically I just need the guts I have a nice lever

Any help appreciated. thanks

Rob

Do you have the t-lever to go on top of the shifter?  If so, the cable and spring are the same as what is in all the Chevy shifters and that stuff can be bought from the Chevelle suppliers.    If not, I have made the cable and pin assembly before on the lathe and used part of an old bicycle cable.  Got the spring at a hardware store.

Thanks Brian.  Yep.  I have the "T".   I will check out the Chevelle stuff.  Much obliged.

Rob,

Show Cars Automotive by you has the braided reverse lockout cables in stock. Not very expensive either.

Looks like I  have a good opportunity to have a qualified person repair the reverse lockout repair.   Third gear on my T10 disintegrated yesterday at about 35 miles an hour.  Literally sounded like someone hit my floor and firewall with a sledge hammer.

Ouch

Were you shifting gears when it happened?  That usually only happens when the shifter hangs it slightly in one gear and you go to another and let the clutch out.   Have you taken it apart yet?  If you can't find anyone to rebuild it, send it down here.  I have rebuilt alot of T10s over the years and can fix it up for you.

I can tell you from what happened last night, Rob is one dedicated 65 GS guy!
He had to get a truck & trailer at my place (he loaned it to me) drive to other parts of town to get his dad
and the broken 65, deliver the car to the north metro, and bring the rig back to my place. And was the hottest/humidest
day of the year. And he had his work clothes only - a suit. And he had to get back to his house after that for a party!

Brian,

It was so startling that I can't recall if I was in the middle shifting gears or if I was just about to shift from three to four.  I was not accelerating.  My hand was on the shifter.  I thought I literally threw a rod through the block.  but I was only going 30-35 miles per hour.  It was very very loud.  I rolled into an office parking lot and looked under the hood and underneath to see if the dive shaft had fallen. Everything look good but with the car turned off, shifting into third was like poking a stick into a garbage can full of crushed aluminium cans.  Not good.

I can also point you to a good source of parts if there is extensive damage--Larry Fischer over on Long Island has some used T10 parts (D&L transmission).
