The silver hardtop is a dead ringer for the first Skylark that I and my brother built in the mid '80's.
Wonder what the vin# is.

Yes I did.
A little history, my brother and I restored the car in the mid 80's. He had bought it from an insurance auction around '80 and wanted to make it a father/son project. Didn't happen. It was intended to be a driver originally. We did the restoration after he realized his son wasn't interested in the work part of it.
In '92, we took the 3 cars that I restored to Overland Park, KS. All three cars took gold and senior awards. Needless to say, it was quite exciting.
My brother kept it till about 10 years ago. It then went to his son, where it remained until about a year ago. Then it went to a Mecum auction in Des Moines where the present owner acquired it. Fortunately, all the documentation and awards have stayed with it.
The present owner recognized names and location history that I brought up that is in the documents with the car.

And that brings it to today,

Great story Loren. Curious as to how it stayed that nice for this many years AND why does he want to sell it after one year ?

Dan,
Having done the work on it, I know it was done right. LOL

The miles are actual 56,000. Hasn't had a lot of miles on it since finished and has always been garaged and extremely well taken care of since.

The interior is all original right down to the carpet. We added the factory A/C, the 4v and the center console. Everything else inside was as the little old lady had when new.

If you did it then I can see why it was/is a 400 point car !!! For all the marbles I assume it was a frame off job.

Did you talk with them as to why they want to sell when they just bought it last year ?

So you're saying it was originally a 210 hp car ? Does adding just a 4 barrel improve the performance much ?

It was not a frame off job, but you couldn't tell by looking at the underside. We removed the complete interior and stored it carefully. Everything else was disassembled, cleaned, painted, plated, etc. Whatever was necessary. It was down to a rolling shell. All the trim, taillights and such are original to the car. We did need a front bumper though. That is how I got started into Gran Sports. Another story in itself.
Yes it is the 210 hp engine. The 4v and dual exhaust really wakes it up and the mileage is good too. If I recall correctly, my brother use to get about 20-21 mpg.  When we traveled to shows, my brother always laughed at me because I could pass him and out run him with my GS, but I couldn't pass as many gas stations as he could.

The present owner lives in VA and has a lake home in MN where the car is kept. Seems he doesn't drive it as much as he thought he would. Didn't get the idea he needed to sell, just testing the waters I think.

Thanks again Loren. Amazing how a casual post about a nice looking Skylark leads to a trip down memory lane. Really enjoyed the info.

No, I thank you.
It was  a lot of fun for me to reminisce and a little heart breaking to find out that it is no longer in the family.
