Tom

The Registry rolled right past me at 99 with another 4 entries in short order.

It was great to see some new names and some veterans so far.

Where are entries 1 through 13?  I don't think I have any filters set up.  :dontknow:

Interesting question.

I count 86 registrations.
gaps exist with 1-13 as noted as well as 33,37,44 and 46. A total of 17.

103 minus 17 = 86.
:dontknow: I'm sure there is an explanation.

I remember Chris saying something about the missing 1 through 12 when he originally set up the registry, but cannot recall what it was. Regarding the other 4 missing entries, perhaps those cars are sold to new owners, removed by owner request, or no longer in existence.

I note that my four speed car still shows as being owned by Mark Lob. I bought it from him last summer, but never bothered to register it under my name.

That is one of the things I have considered also. Without the previous owner notifying the registry of a car being sold,  the registry has no way of  knowing.
Further,if the new owner doesn't go ahead and register it, the history stops.
The idea of the registry is to help document how many of our beloved '65 GS still exist.
The need of the VIN # in the form should help in that manner.
Although, I would imagine that some folks feel that having to add the VIN as a required field is an invasion of privacy, and as a result, don't register. Just a thought.

Just some food for thought,

Hi Guys,

The entries are still all there and the page is displaying the raw entry numbers that each entry was assigned in the database at the time of record creation.  When I setting everything up, the first 13 entries were test entries and have been deleted.  Because the entry number always belongs to the entry regardless of deletion, those numbers are still recorded in the database as "once taken" so nothing else can take them.  I've sent Loren an email about hiding the entry numbers and displaying a tabular numbering system that wouldn't care what was entered next to it since there would be no correlation to the database.  Another thing that could improved upon is a way to list a current owner of a car by VIN but also be able to pull up previous owners and history on the car.  This would address the issues that some of you have brought up with cars still being listed under the old owners.  The registry is all custom code that is going on 8 years old and it could use a facelift and some new functionality.  A couple of years ago I requested some quotes for making some updates and they came back between $350 - $500.

With the changing of the guard, it's a good time to discuss the ways of raising some of the funds needed to operate the site annually and make these improvements to things like the registry and / or additional pages.  I've never been a fan of "paid memberships" and I think there are ways around this.  It's been suggested in the past that we add a donate button on the site and occasionally have fund raising events that would range from auctioning off donated parts and / or merchandise (T-Shirts, mouse pads, coffee mugs etc).

I'm here to help... let's start this discussion   :icon_thumright:

Milton,

Much thanks, I too appreciate everyones input here. 500 posts,Wow, I hadn't noticed.

Chris,
Thanks for the explanation of the numbering system and what is involved to make changes to programing.

In an effort to kick off a discussion, here goes.

I too have not been a fan of membership fees, I think that would hinder what many of us see this site to be.
To me, we have a community here, not a club that a fee is required in order to participate. Heck, we don't even ask you to own a '64-'67 Buick A body, just an interest.

As for some other ideas, let's hear em.

All

I waited 1 1/2 years to enter the Registry because I knew I couldn't update my pictures once they were entered.

My pictures today are a lot closer to my reality then when I purchased the car.

As part of the Registry, is the intent to come as close as possible to original on the data tag, current condition, originally purchased condition or?

I think it would be nice to update our Registry pictures as our projects move through life but maintain records for the Data Codes as much as we can.

Is verifying Data Codes part of the Registry mission?

We have a wide variety of execution and interest but it is all based on our love for the mid 60,s Buick A body. Especially the GS.

Is there an interest in including the 66 and perhaps the 67 GS in their own data base?

I also wonder if there is value in listing cars in this category we have previously owned? The current owner may not appreciate their car being posted.

How do we maximise the benefit without giving up our privacy and security?

I'm relatively new at this web stuff but I sure appreciate the interaction, information, support and encouragement this site provides without getting swallowed up like other sites.

I would Rather make occasional donations when needed then putting up with continues commercial advertising.

Whats your thoughts?

Milton, thanks for your input.

Verifying data plate codes could certainly be done to some degree by knowing the info on the plate and the original equipment. It would help in the decipher for all of us.I think we are still guessing at a few.
If we had info from non GS Skylarks. Maybe that would help determine a "GS" code.
I am in no way suggesting purification.
My GS was originally  white with red interior, factory 4 spd, non A/C and no tilt.
When I bought the car it was in pieces, the previous owner had destroyed the engine by throwing a rod through the block.
When I restored/ rebuilt it, I built the car to drive it. I decided to do a color change, Champagne Mist, and using an "NK" automatic transmission. I wanted to put on the "Buick" aluminum valve covers, they came attached to an "LX" engine.
So as you all can see, I'm not a good at being a purist. But I do think it is reasonable to know what is and is not correct. I feel it helps to avoid deception.

As Chris was leading to, this may be a good time to make some changes/ additions.

So lets hear some more,
