Coil spring help
« on: September 24, 2012, 03:12:43 PM »
Hello to all,

I just purchased a 65 GS convertible and am getting ready to rebuild the drive train a suspension. I would obvioulsy like to keep the originality of the car as much as possible but am torn on what height to have my new coil springs made. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Welcome to the site ! You can do a Search of this site for information about subjects like this. Lots of different individual solutions.
I purchased my front coils from Coil Spring Specialties in Kansas http://www.coilsprings.com/classic.aspx. Bought the 'standard' front coils and am happy. Can post a picture showing the ride height if you want.
Enjoy your convertible. Where are you located ?

I did find a couple of post on the subject and I believe that It was your car I found. Is your name Dan Ankeney? I like the way your car sits but I thought the post said your ordered 2in over stock height. I had Coil Springs Specialties pull the order and said that the fronts were stock and the rears were 1 inch over stock, is this correct. I am in Omaha, NE. Thanks

Correcto mundo. I have ordered both the 2 and 1 inch over for the rear. Had the + 2 inch first and after a while thought it was a bit too high. So I ordered the + 1 inch. It should be noted that either way the ride is the same as stock, just the height is different.
What size wheels and tires are you planning on running ?

Red car has the + 2 inch rear coils. Convertible with same wheels and tires has the + 1 inch rear coils. Wheels are 17x7 front and 17x8 rear. Tires are 215/50 and 235/50. Rears are a close fit.

Beutiful, my convertible is the same color and i love the looks of the tires and rims. I am going to go with the 1 inch in the rears. I want to be able to run my factory 14 inch wheels for shows. did you do a disk brake conversion on the front?

The red car has the disc brake conversion on the front. Convertible is stock. This is a picture with 14 inch rally wheels with 3-1/2 inch backspacing and 225/70-14 tires.

I am going to drive the car quite often but not very far. In your opinion would you reccomend the conversion. I have manual brakes and I am at least going to put the booster on but not sure about the front disks.

Definitely upgrade to power brakes. The disc brake conversion is a plus but would personally spend the money elsewhere first. When converting to power brakes installing a dual master cylinder can be a good safety move though. But its a matter of preference.
