Soft Car Covers
« on: September 15, 2012, 10:08:17 AM »
I was wondering if anyone has any opinions - good or bad - with using soft car covers indoors?  I have my 65 GS in a standard storage garage.  It's tidy and keeps the elements out, but its in a row of other garages so it gets a lot of dust raining down on the paint from the rafters etc.....  I haven't noticed any real damage, but from time to time I think a few birds get into the rafters and I've found the occasional bird bomb on the finish.  Overall I'm not a fanatic about my finish, but I don't enjoy having to dust her off and re-wax her every time I pull her out.  So I was interested and curious to see if anyone else covers their baby indoors and if the car cover is more trouble than its worth?  Or maybe this is only something people do when they store cars for months or over the winter.

Thoughts?

Jimmy,

I keep covers on the cars all the time indoors. I know there are cheaper covers out there, but California Car Cover Co.
is what I've bought for years. One car has the "standard" cover, the GS has a more expensive one that has a soft liner
that is easier on the paint. I had to wash the standard cover once, and needed to find an commercial size wash machine
at a laundromat.

I normally keep a cover on mine as well. Just to keep the dust off.
Don't waste your money on a cheap cover, bird droppings will stain through it. Been there , done that.

I put a cheap cover on my cars....and throw a plastic tarp over that to keep the cover clean! LOL!
A 8 x 20 ft  tarp will keep the dust off of the car cover, but not trap too much moisture under it that would hurt the chrome and trim.
I've noticed that just a cotton or polyester cover will still let some dust thru..... hence the tarp on top of it.

Wal-mart sells the Budge covers. The better one has Tyvek Dupont material. Pretty decent. 10 years warranty. You need size 4.

Thanks much - I wasn't sure if I was just being overprotective with my first classic car.  Now I feel a little less silly.
