New purchase. 65 Gran Sport HT AT
« on: June 12, 2012, 07:10:46 AM »
New to this board member of v8buick and BPG forums.
Just bought a 65 GS out of Alabama with an Olds motor in it.
car is really complete for having an engine swap done in the 80's
The car has AC, tilt wheel, rear speaker.
After pulling all the parts out it looks like I am only missing the vinyl top trim water pump pulley (3groove).

Glad to see you on here David!   Your pics look all too familiar--having flashbacks to the day I drug mine home in 1998!

Welcome. Always glad to see another '65 GS saved. Saw this on ebay. Looks like you've got a great project at a great price. Any help you need with getting it back on the road, this is the place to ask. Post something in the parts wanted section for the pulley and trim. It might be difficult to find the trim as it's GS specific. Good luck.

Welcome to the board,

If you need the trim I have a set as I parted a 3 speed car this spring, have all the trim just will need the spring clips and maybe to refinish them as do have some scratches on them if you are interested

Glad to see I was not the only one going through more than one state to get a GS, at least yours can be saved.

Regards,
Jim

I parted a 65 GS 4speed car, sad to say, quit a few years ago.  It was really bad with frame rust and none correct engine and not much of the manual stuff. I thought I had the top trim but for the life of me I can't find them.  How much are you wanting for the trim?  It was a long day, 14 hours but well worth it, I think.  Is this GS specific or just vinyl top specific trim?

David,

Welcome to the forum! That car looks very savable. The trim you need is GS specific. The Skylarks used the halo top trim for paint or vinyl trim options.

David,

It is '65 GS specific, whether you have a vinyl top, painted contrasting color top or paint all one color GS.

Thanks for the Trim information.  I got the Olds motor running and drove it around the yard. Other than the lifter that is ticking it run OK.  now time to sell it so the rightfl engine can go back in til I am ready to start on the car.

David,

I am heading down to NC for the BCA show and Brian's A-body get together, this weekend so I will have to dig them out and send you some pictures so you can see if they will work for you and go from there.

It will be a few weeks unless you are heading down there as well, then I can bring them with me.

If you want email me or get with Brian and he can get you my contact info

Regards,
Jim
