Know someone in Ct. with a '65 GS conv. 4spd. for sale. If I remember correctly a light blue, white interior. Not original engine, gone long ago. Nice car, nice condition, runs exceptional. Asking 16K.

Talked with the seller of the eBay 4 speed GS today. Very nice guy. He feels the car is better than what it looks like in the pictures and is repairable without replacing major portions of the metal. The rear axle was changed out years ago but he knows someone with several original posi rear ends for 65 Skylarks. No news on the original engine but again stated that he has a lead on it in Colorado Springs.
The reserve was $10,000. He mentioned that he would sell it for $8,500. Have to act soon as he is headed overseas for business in June. Car is located in Franktown, CO just south of Denver.

8,500?-Non numbers motor and rear end.Remember a posi from a Skylark is not the same as one from a GS.My opinion on a car like this needing a total resto and never going to be a numbers car-5,000 and you'll probley still be under water when done.   Tom

That's not cheap.  my 4 spd convert was in worse shape (more rust),  but it had the matching motor and I bought it on ebay for 3100.  I figured the reserve with the rebuilt 425 and the dual quads would have been about 5k on this colorado car.  Mark and i looked at a totally matching 3spd convert with protect o plate for $6000.  Probably still sitting there.

Agree... $5k is a stretch.
The premium for the vert and 4 speed is offset by the amount of work the car needs.
But in the end, a difference of a few thou in the purchase price is pretty insignificant after $20-30k + in restoration costs are added.

Are you guys serious ? $5,000 is top money for this ? Maybe that's why I lose money on all my cars.  :laughing7:
First off I made a mistake in saying he knew where a 'Skylark' posi was. I should have said GS.
The seller said the 425 in the car was just rebuilt. Balanced and blue printed even. Dual quads. Aluminum valve covers. Chrome air cleaner. Exhaust manifolds not headers. Starts and runs great. Transmission was rebuilt. Has GS on the side of it. Prior owner had a transmission rebuild shop. What's that all worth ?
Frame is solid as all get out. Floors are solid. Trunk has a couple of holes that were drilled in it. Yes it needs a hood and front bumper. That wheel opening will need work too. Seller claims the driver door shuts great. Means it can be fixed not replaced.
Everything is there. No need for a spare car to rebuild this.
Walt is right that it could take $20-30 K to redo it if you are paying someone else like I am.
Hell, this is worth $8,500 in parts alone.

Dan, I don't think you could part that car for anywhere near 8,500.Sad to say but being the owner of two 65 GS's I watch the parts being bought and sold and lets face it, the 65 stuff just doesn't have a big following.Just look at the number of members here on the board, not a lot and fewer active ones.Don't get me wrong as I love both of my 65's and if I had to start seling they would be the last to go but you have to be realistic here. Think with your wallet, after you sell the 425 dual quad motor your down to a very limited market place to part the rest.Just my opinion but that's why I wouldn't give more that 5,000 and that's being generous.      Tom

The info for the '65 GS 4spd. conv. is pcialone@comcast.net. The ball is now up to everyone who may be interested in a very nice '65 GS conv.  Paul is a GREAT guy & honest. He will give a truthful explanation & it can be taken to the bank. This car has no rust or repairs that I know of. The people in the Ct. area who know this car besides myself are Carl Rylick, Bob Christo & Bob Quigg. In fact Bob Quigg has done some work to the car also. I don't think for the asking $$$ that anyone can go wrong.
You can buy it now & enjoy it for the summer & pick at it over the coming winter.

Paul emailed me to say that his 4-speed convertible was just sold to a friend of his.
