Edelbrock Aluminum head poll
« on: January 31, 2009, 05:34:18 PM »
Edelbrock has a poll under the 'News Headlines' for new Nailhead products:
http://edelbrock.com/

Take your pick: Heads, intakes, or other.....

New 2x4 intakes are avail from EELCO (basically an Edelbrock clone), and a 1x4 is reportedly on the way. And do we really want 'EDELBROCK' valve covers on our BUICK?...I vote NO!
Therefore, I recommend we all vote for aluminum heads!

My best guess is that these would most likely be mildly improved aluminum versions of the originals. But I do hope they spend some R&D $$ to produce something that will offer significant hp increases. (insert 'pray' emoticon here).

I'll take a wild guess at the cost....Summit has SBC heads for $1000. The new 409 heads are $2000. Highest price on the Summit site is $2700 for the Victor 429-460 Ford heads. So I'd estimate Nailhead heads would be on the high side at $2000 to $2700.
Now put the cost into perspective.... I spent over $600 to have my stock iron heads resurfaced, have new guides installed and cut for valve seals, a 3 angle valve job done, and new springs.
www.Gesslerheadporting.com will do the same with new valves, retainers, and keepers for $900. Porting could be $1000++ extra.

So if Edelbrock could give us an improved pair of heads for $2500, it may be worthwhile.

Opinions?

Please vote!

I'm with you.... Heads are the way to go and in my opinion is what is most lacking in the Speed Parts bin.

I'm headed over to the survey and checking the box.

Some improved heads would be great. Sales of the 409 parts must be good if they are polling for nailhead parts. One difference - original 409 heads, as well as other parts, were getting scarce and commanding some big price tags. And the 409 guys will spend money on parts.

Has anyone seen or used an EELCO 2x4 intake, and when will the 1x4 intakes be available?
Seems to me they are slow to release and ship parts from what I've heard.

I think they should consider a combo head/intake package like the 409. I'm indifferent about the valve covers because there are already several finned covers available for the nailhead.

News flash!  This just in from the Yahoo Nailhead group...and it's
BIG!!
This was posted by Russ Martin, the west coast Nailhead Guru:

>>>>The guy that is working on heads for Edelbrock contacted me last week, he asked what I thought about the heads he was working on. He is designing heads that are same on the outside as stock and also highly modified ones for about 3 years. The highly modified ones used special headers with raised exhaust ports that resemble a Stage 2 and a special intake manifold and larger valves. The stock valve covers would fit but set higher(about 3/4") up so the heads would a lot like 215-300 heads. These flow well enough to make 550 HP. The stock looking heads would allow all the stock manifolds and brackets to work with a more modest HP increase. I feel these heads would be the most sell-able but it would be nice to produce both packages but the stock lookers would sell 10 to 1. What do you think??  Russ<<<<

I say give me a pair of each!!
