Motor Mount replacement help - '65 Skylark 300
« on: August 01, 2011, 11:36:27 PM »
Hi Guys:

I need to replace the motor mounts on my "survivor" '65 Skylark 300 V8.  I don't have a engine hoist, so I will need to support the engine with a floor jack and a piece of wood.  My questions are where EXACTLY do I position the jack so as to not damge the oil pan and how EXACTLY do I use the block of wood to support it?  Also, any and all tips/tricks/step-by-step instructions are appreciated.  Thanks.

I would jack it under the front crank pulley using a block of wood on top of the jack.  Once you get it all the way up where the transmission is touching the floor pan, use blocks of wood between the exhaust manifolds and the upper A-arms to hold the engine up.

Yes, that is what I have done before.  You can get a block of wood partially on the crank pulley and partially under the damper on the front.  Much stronger than the oil pan.
