Questions on pulleys
« on: August 09, 2020, 07:58:10 PM »
Needing some advice, it has been so long since I disassembled my 401, I am not sure which pulleys are correct , no ac, I have added power steering . Do all 401 s have the triple pulley on crankshaft? If someone has a picture of correct belt and pulleys I would greatly appreciate it , thanks

  grants6,

The bottom pulley should be a double with one belt to drive the alternator and the other belt to drive the power steering. The triple bottom pulley was used for an AC car. The alternator and AC compressor were driven with the same two belts. Two belts were needed because there was a small contact area on the pulleys due to the arrangement of the AC compressor and the alternator.

Pictures of original set of pulleys for '65 GS with power steering , no AC.
Crank pulley is part number1368359. Water pump pulley is part number 1368358. These numbers are stamped into the parts. The correct power steering pulley I have,  does not have a number stamped on it, but has an outside diameter of 5 3/8 inches.
