Title: Original Alternator Bracket
Post by: Weldar on January 23, 2011, 03:19:23 PM
My car had an early aftermarket AC installed and the lower alternator bracket was removed. I'm not going to reinstall the AC so I need the original type bracket, does this look like the correct original bracket?

Do you already have the cast aluminum bracket that bolts on the head?
Here's one on eBay:

It's important to use the longer head bolts with this bracket!

Weird.  Those 2 look smooth (the stamped metal lower ones) I think the ones on my engines have a raised bead down the middle.
Do you have the aluminum part already, and the right length bolts?

Don't have the aluminum part and assume it was thrown when the aftermarket AC was installed. This unit also used a head bolt to install so maybe I have it. I'll probably need a pic to better understand how this goes together. Thanks for the input.

My lower alternator also has that raised bead. Perhaps Buick changed this to strengthen the bracket after 1962 and before 1965. Here is a photo of how those two brackets bolt up (ignore the aftermarket AC compressor). Thanks to Dan for the photo.
