Its a no reserve auction so it could say what the market is right now. Of course it may not look as good in person as it does in the pictures.

There is one being auctioned today (Jan 21) at RM Auctions.

Rob,
That car has been for sale in Las Vegas for quite a while. Some members of this site looked it over some time ago. The presale estimate is $35-45,000. I hope so. No reserve too.

That car was a no sale at one of the AZ auctions about 4 years ago at 45K.

The RM car sold for $33,000. When you add in the auction fee of 10 to 15% that's a pretty good price.

That car sat at the Imperial Palace for many years and Dan Habel and I looked it over really good.
It's a really nice car that someone poured a lot of restoration money into however the numbers didn't match. It's funny that they never disclosed this even after we pointed it out to them.
That's really high money for a non-numbers matching 65 even if it is in that condition.

Wow. I didn't know it was non-matching. When I say the price is "good', I meant it suggests strong values for our cars. I like it.

Rob, the sale price includes the 10 % buyers fee, so it was sold at $30,000 plus a $3,000 fee. They were asking $45,000 a few years ago when I inquired. The 4 speed AC car in Florida at $26,000 was definitely as nice a car as this one. That car was a forum members. See pics from R Bear in the gallery on page 5.
Chris, other than the non-matching number engine was the car done really correct ?

The car had a very obvious high dollar restoration that still looked really fresh. There was a couple minor items that didn't look right (wrong door mirrors etc.) but overall a very nice car.
The black paint was spotless and the bodywork was laser straight. This tells me the car probably was a California car as stated by the Imperial Palace.
I told them that $45,000 was crazy money for that car and they tried to tell me they had it underpriced and they were just looking for a "quick sell"... I suppose that never happened huh? :confused3:

High prices are like a two edge sword. It looks good on a balance sheet of assets. It kinda sucks when you want to buy another one.
Just my 2 cents

Brian Albrecht is down in Fl for the auction. He called to tell me about the car, said it really looked great.
When I tell him how much, he maay think that over again!

The mecum car went for $19,250 according to their website (if I read it right). That seems cheap to me.
I agree with Loren about the double edge sword comment. One upside of high values however is that it's easier to convince my wife to let me spend $25,000 to buy and restore a $35,000 car than a $20,000 car. Still a nice four speed for under twenty would be hard to pass up.

Rob,
I'm also in Florida and saw the car in person. $19,250 might have been a little low but not much. Car had lots of options but original AC was not on the car. Had an after market compressor mounted down low below the alternator. Carbs were not correct for '65. Headers were tired. Paint was shiney. All in all a great car to buy and enjoy and fix up along the way.

Maybe would have brough't more if had a reserve and the owner was alive and not just the family trying to liquidate his assets! Glenn 65 4sp.
