I'm planning on putting a vinyl top on a non-vinyl top car. What I need is pics on where the clips are located and what type they are. I think I can get them(clips) from a company called Au-Ve-Co or something like that. But without knowing what they look like, I'm afraid I'll order the wrong ones. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Mike,
Are you putting a vinyl top on a GS or Skylark?
If it's a GS, the pierced holes for the clips and trim are already there as all GS hardtops and sedans had that trim. The clips can be had from Jon Thompson, gssizzler on this forum.

Putting the vinyl top on a Skylark. So I have nothing to use as a reference. Was just hoping someone was in the middle of a project and could snap some pics for me.

The Skylark had a different trim arrangement for the vinyl top. See attached pic.
Do you have the beltline trim for vinyl top/GS? You'll need to get that first.
Those pieces are getting tough to find.
Let me know, I can always take pics/measurements.

Mark,
Thanks for the help. I've removed the halo trim and purchased the vinyl top trim from a guy on V8Buick. So the trim is on its way. So the hard part is over. Also sent gssizzler a msg. about trim clips. Another thing I was wondering. Since this is on a Skylark, and doesn't have the studs to hold the clips like around the windshield and backglass. Can I use some appropriate sized screws with some sealer around the threads to hold the clips or what do you suggest?

Mike,
Good, looks like you're close to having all the stuff. The hard part is two clips each side
that hold the GS beltline trim to the c-pillar. The factory ones just snap in, there is no
clean access to the back. You could drill some access holes to get at a different clip/nut type.
Do you mean the clips for the windshield/back window trim? Some of those have no studs.
Use a stainless screw with non-corrosive RTV on those.

Mark,
No I wasn't talking about the W/S or backglass clips and studs. I was using these as an example because I wasn't sure how the clips were attached to the body, if they were studs like the W/S or if they were bolted on with a nut on the backside.

Mike,
For the trim you are planing to use, the GS did not have the welded on studs as you are referring to. The side pieces have clips that push through holes and hold. The center piece clips have the peg and use a nut on the inside.

Thanks Loren. That's what I was looking for.

Hope this info will help a little. The clips I used for the piece that runs under the window were 1/4" wide and 3/4" long studs. They look like 10-24 or 8-32 threads. Make sure you do not use any type of silicone to seal them, strip chaulk will work. The other clips I could not find so I used similar clips on the ones I could get nuts on and the others I re-used what I had.

Here are the clips. If you need more info, let me know.

Thanks for posting pics up for me. These will definately help. Now at least I have an idea how many there are and roughly where to put them. Thank you everyone for your time.
