Title: Removal of full length console
Post by: Weldar on September 16, 2010, 10:41:33 PM
Removed the two screws in the storage compartment and the two screws that seem to attach the top chromed piece to the bottom plastic piece. Thing is loose but there must be a trick to this. Rooted around the PDF'd manuals but don't see it. Can anyone provide some guidance?

Pulled most the carpet up except around the console and most of the tar paper and was hoping to see a build sheet, but did not. Maybe it will be in the door panels?

There is a small "pin" in the rear of the shifter slot that you have to push in with a tiny punch or something similar.  Once you push that in, the whole panel around the shifter lifts up from the rear and comes out.  There are then two screws underneath it that attach it to the top of the shifter mechanism.

Buildsheets are rarely found. Couple of guys here have found handwritten notes in their 65's.
Most of my 66's have the Fisher Body build sheet stuck in the rear seat springs. Pull the rear seat out and look at the underside of it.
