Title: Could a 1965 Buick Special with V6 225 ci motor be ordered with power brakes ???
Post by: option B9 on December 09, 2024, 08:33:37 PM
Hi everyone, One of our members wants to put power brakes on a 1965 Buick Special with the 225ci V6 like the factory did. My question is, did they ? I have never seen a 1965 225 ci motor with power brakes. I looked in my literature and the only power brakes was on the 1965 Special/Skylark with the 300 ci 2bbl carb. Or our Gran Sports with the 401 nailhead.
The 1965 Special was standard with the 225 V6 1bbl carb. I had one, and it was a terrible performer! really bad.. Many of them were traded in for V8 Skylarks or LeSabres. To fix this problem in 1966 Buick changed the manifold to a Rochester 2bbl carb. This changed the performance drastically. So I found a 66 manifold/ carb and enjoyed my Special for nearly 40 years.
Could the 1bbl carb create enough vacuum to operate the power brake unit ?  If anyone can answer any of these questions please post... Thanks.

Ok, I had some time this evening since we were not expecting to be here in Nebraska. No family commitments. Kind of a bummer though.
I looked through my collection of Buick dealer literature that salespersons had on hand for ordering a vehicle. This includes the 1965 Buick Features and Facts book, the Pleasure Profile and the Buick Motor Division Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Prices sheet. There is no reference to the v6 being available only with manual brakes in any of these. In other words, as I see it, a v6 Skylark or Special could have power brakes.

Hi Loren, I Haven't stopped looking for a 65 Special/Skylark V6 +power brakes, I finally found one on Hemmings Auctions, stock # 4494. It's a code Z2 convertible with Red interior being sold in PA at the Automall. The photos of the engine compartment clearly show the power brake booster and the hose leading to a hard line. The narrative states that this is a 2 owner original car. So that answers the question. I will contact our member and tell him that there was the option for the V6. Case closed !
