Dear Jim and mid-60s Buick parts hounds,

Any 65 4 barrel intakes  out there ? jim

It is probably a lot more expensive than you were planning to spend, but Centerville Auto Repair has a "remanufactured" one on eBay:

Yes,a little to high this would have been a streetrod motor not numbers matching didn't  need a bunch of hp as the 300 was a good running  motor I just pulled out thought I'd use it .but now I'm leaning. To the 401  or 455.jim

Hi,

Not sure the cost involved, but have heard of people using a 215 manifold with spacers not sure what they did for the valley usually see cast iron manifolds in the 300-400ish range

Another idea might be look for 65 Lesabre as believe most came with 4v 300,s as seen a few on marketplace in the past.

Good luck with the search

Jim

Hi,I have 3 buildable motors  300,401,455 thought the 300 would be quick and easy but being so rare I might as well go 401 or 455  if I go 455 I'll have to beef up the drivetrain .either one I'd want to mess with more than the 300 which I'd just do stock.

Hi again,

300 is a good motor, decent milage, seen one a guy had built in a 64 Special running in the 12,s

If a open hood hot rod my vote would be the Nailhead (401) as always a crowd pleaser visually and lots of power without the need for lower axle ratios as plenty of torque.  Though note transmission options are not cheap, th/st400 is the cheapest automatic, there are conversion bellhousings for a 200r4 or 700r4.  Stick bellhousings factory are rare there is a few aftermarket ones still in the 400 price range.

Good luck with the decision and don't write off the 300 either look on V8buick:
