Title: OEM 1964-67 Buick "knee knocker" tach?
Post by: elagache on August 23, 2023, 04:52:48 PM
Dear mid-60s Buick parts-hounds,

My daily perusal of the eBay Buick parts listings turned up a (according to the seller:) "1964 1965 1966 1967 Buick Skylark GS knee knocker 6K Tachometer W/Cup Orig GM"  Here is a link to the listing:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/266384599042 (https://www.ebay.com/itm/266384599042)

So tell me mid-60s Buick experts, is this the real McCoy?

A curious mind would like to know!

It is correct but the price is at what a working, excellent chrome condition example would draw.          This doesn't say that it has been tested. It says "Condition: For parts or not working."

Not familiar with this seller. Just posted my opinion.
I should get my butt in gear and finish up the tachs I have in stock. lol I have good tested units available
that need nice housings. Unfortunately, with the price of chroming it's not practical.

That is a crazy price! Loren, you should have kept that extremely nice cup from the tach I sent you!

Dear Loren, Jim, Jim, and mid-60s Buick parts hounds,

Thanks for the commentary.  To be honest, I didn't even look at the price!  I had simply never seen one and was curious if indeed Buick had such a thing that dealers could install.

My curiosity is now satisfied!

And they're coming out of the woodwork. Up to four on eBay now.
Here's an even more expensive one,

Hey Loren, that ad mentions a repo bezel..... I haven't seen the bezel avail by itself, but complete tachs are.

The 1966 Chevelle tach is similar to the Buick tach and avail as a repo for about $180.
They dont have the adjustable redline needle like the Buick tach does.
Here's one, chosen at random, the ad features lots of pictures:

My first '66 GS that I bought in 1977 had a Chevelle tach mounted in the console. It looked like a factory install. I always wondered how that ended up in there.

There are repo parts avail for the Buick tach. Lenses (plastic) and face decals are avail from Buickman1967 on V8 Buick.
