Ice in SW Michigan. Schools closed. Lots of power outages, I believe I saw 600,000 without power in MI. Restoration will take days.

We have about a foot so far luckily the wind has not been as bad as it could have been. However I did catch a bad cold from moving snow.

It is snowing in Northern California, low thirties. Only snows here every four or five years. Weather reports say it’s going to snow for about 24 more hours. The ground is warmer than 32 degrees so it won’t last long. But, many locals don’t know how to drive in the snow!

Schools closed for three days here after about 1/2" of ice. Tons of limbs and trees down in the roads. Had to take an unusual route into town yesterday to avoid downed trees and power lines. Power is out until Monday or Tuesday according to the power company. The standby generator is invaluable for country living!

Be safe!

Chuck

We had a foot of snow last night. All roads in and out of Lake County are closed. Many tree limbs down and I think we lost the top half of a cork oak tree last night. I’ll go check later when the snow melts. I hope next Saturday is a burn day. (that’s when I have a yard helper)

Is any of the rain/snow doing any good or is it all
 runoff in California?

Our lakes and reservoirs are filling up and the snow seems to spread the water over more time before it runs off, so I think it is helping. Our ground water is going to need awhile to be replenished. Our attitude is we will take whatever we can get.

My grandmother came from Oregon, I believe Coos Bay, she was Daisy Bruer and mostly of German decent. I did drive through there about 1972 in my 1969 MGB.

Used to go there a lot. Company I worked for owned the North Bend liner board mill and a bunch of Doug Fir acreage. Was Menasha Corporation.

All

Had our 2nd 17 inch storm of the season last Thursday.

The first 17 incher in Dec gave us fair warning to get our equipment in order.

We have had several 5 inchers in between but today Monday it mostly rained and froze everything up tight.

My son has a 2020 3/4 ton Chevy with turbo diesel, plow package and V plow.

We live on a lake so are concerned about drifting from the wind and this coming spring snow melt.

We are really lucky to have kids willing to help us manage our 1/4 mile long asphalt driveway.

At my age it’s great to have helpful kids to manage our 1/4 mile long asphalt driveway under these conditions.
