Title: 2 GS's on Craigslist down South. Oct 2008
Post by: WkillGS on October 17, 2008, 09:28:57 PM
A couple of you mentioned you were looking for something...
They would be a long haul home, but Dan could get his GS, and Chris could get his parts car!
Both deals include a GS and a parts car.
First is a burgundy hardtop in Kentucky for $2800.

Next is a vert in Florida for $5k:

Thanks for passing this on Walt.

The cars in KY look a little rough.  I've actually got a line on a 65 Skylark post (I'm needing a post donor) from the V8Buick board.  It's supposely a black plate Cali car that is really clean and this is exactly what the Dr. ordered.

Notice on the Florida car what appears to be a square grill emblem.  Early production car?

I've called the owner to learn more about it and see if he'll list it in the registry before selling it.

Thanks again,

Chris,

I took down my post after I saw the note from Dan. You are correct! Brian Stone needs to intervene here, his HT has a build date close to this one. I would guess that it would be around this time that Buick superceded this emblem. I parted an 01D KC HT car that had this emblem. It is now with Brian.

Actually, Brian is the one who has forgotten more about these cars than me! I'd put Walt in that category too.

Hi Guys,

I'm Steve with the Florida GS convertible, and the '64 Skylark parts car...(Sorry, Dan)...I've decided to keep the cars and will start hanging around here!

I sent an email to Chris, as the hood has the ornament but not the "BUICK" letters, and the parking lamps don't have grilles...other early car nuances?

Regards,

Steve

Steve,

Welcome to the site! I can't explain the hood letters, or lack of park light grilles, but every Skylark I've ever seen had them both. It's probably a Special hood that was drilled later for the hood ornament, and the park light grilles someone probably just removed.

The only thing to differentiate an early car to my knowledge was the grille emblem. You might to check that bumper again too. I've seen a number of Skylarks that had Special/Sportwagon bumpers swapped on. They have a smaller park light with no grille.

Thanks, Mark. Another oddity is that the trunk lid does have the letters...but no other emblems, appears original. At least the hood from my '64 Skylark parts car does have the letters, and is now at home on the GS!

Curiouser and curiouser.

On the front bumpers, do the Special/wagon bumpers have the same general appearance except for the parking light difference?

Steve,

There should be "Gran Sport" emblem on the trunk lid. Thats the only identification on the back of the car. There should be "Gran Sport" emblems on the quarter panels for convertible body styles.

The front bumpers are identical except for the park light openings. The Special and Sportwagon had smaller oval-shaped park lights.
