Title: 2022 BCA Nationals
Post by: cwmcobra on May 21, 2022, 07:46:16 AM
As Loren reminded us, the cutoff for registration is soon.  On Monday, I believe.  So who's going to attend?  I have a hotel room reserved and registered for the event this morning.  Hoping to see a good turnout from our Midwest 65 enthusiasts!

I released the Verde Howitzer from it's winter storage bag yesterday, so will be getting it ready for judging at the meet.

 :cheers2:

The 2022 BCA National Meet was held in Lisle, Illinois last week.  I arrived late in the week, but was pleased to spend time with a lot of our 65 GS friends.  Those attending from our group included Loren and Roxy Alexander (from Nebraska), Kevin and Angie Champagne (from Ohio), Glenn and Bonnie Vinz (from Indiana), Dan Ankeney (from Florida), Milton Dale (from Minnesota), Bill Lahner (from Iowa), Jon Thompson (from Wisconsin) and me (Chuck Miller from Michigan). The last time most of this group had been together was the 2017 Nationals in Brookfield, Wisconsin.  So it was great to be together again, talk Buicks and catch up on life in general.  Four of us took cars to be displayed and judged and received awards.  Milton received a Gold award for his 65 GS that came home to him from paint six days before judging.  It was quite an accomplishment to have gotten the car together in that short time!  Glenn received a Senior Preservation award after receiving the Senior Gold award in 2017.  This is very deserved respect for his car that is meticulously maintained and always shows well.  Bill received an Archival Elite award after his 2017 Archival award.  Bill’s is another 65 GS that shows well.  My car, the Verde Howitzer, received a Senior Gold award in its first BCA showing.  Pictures of the cars and winners with their awards are attached.

Of course, it’s always fun to win an award, but these were achieved under very adverse conditions.  After nothing but sunshine and hot weather earlier in the week, the skies opened up yesterday morning just as judging began.  The judges finished their tasks in record time while dodging raindrops.  In the early afternoon, shortly after I got my soaking wet car into the trailer, the rain stopped and the sun came out.  So the afternoon activity was wiping down all the wet cars and providing opportunity to view all the other cool cars on display.  Pictures of a couple of Skylarks on display are also attached.

Many thanks to those that came from different corners of our country to be together.  And special thanks to Loren for his continuous efforts to keep this group together while promoting the 65 GS!

Chuck

Thanks Chuck for putting together this great summation of the 2022 BCA National and congratulations and thank you to you and all the other participants and guests at the National's. It certainly won't be one I will forget.

Of interest my whole family came down from Minnesota for the event. My wife son 3 grand children 5 6 and 8 years old and a family friend of 20 years. That was an adventure in itself.

You may have noticed, the guy in the  checkered shirt is me, I am holding an award that isn't mine. My grandson had grabbed my award and ran it all the way back to the hotel across the street to show grandma he was so excited about it. I'm sure it is family lore that will live on forever. Thanks Kevin for your quick thinking on coming up with the substitute award.

Of particular interest on seeing my car is the set of 5 wheels that were set for recall when the car was brand new. I am the 3rd owner of this car and verified the facts with the original owner. They are commonly known as the 4 weld wheel's. The rim and center are only welded in 4 places instead of all the way around the rim. You may also notice the center pieces are painted gray instead of black as done in following years and the center spokes are polished not dull.

In summation we all had a great time and it will be remembered forever.

Chuck, thanks for posting the information on the Nationals. Also thanks for the kind words on my car. It was sad to see your car get a bath on it's first time BCA showing, but we were able to get the cars dried off and were still able to enjoy the rest of the day. Senior Gold is well deserved for your car. The judging sheet will tell the tale. With each car starting at 400 points It will be interesting to see how close to that number you get. My guess is very, very close.

Great reporting Chuck. The best part was visiting with old friends. Going Paisans for grub every night was enjoyable too.

Congratulations to all the winners.
