I have a recast steering wheel I bought years ago that need to be painted. Wondering if there are special procedures for the painting. Seems too easy to just sand and rattle can spray.
-
I got a steering wheel from Frank when he was making them. I just used SEM Vinyl paint and is turned out fine.

Painting works well, but would suggest using urethane paint. Tougher and more durable than standard paint.

Thank you. I will head down to the paint store when I am 100% sure of my interior color choice, but can’t imagine anything other than black.

Hi ,sand 600, wax&grease remove ,tack cloth urethane paint.jim

Hi Kurt, I have sprayed several Steering Wheels, I also recommend a urethane paint with a hardener. After you spray the wheel let the paint cure for a few days before handling it.

Just now went out to my shop and looked at the wheel, it has holes from casting that need to be filled. They are in the bumps on the back side of the wheel. I assume I should fill them with body filler?

Filler gets to hard you need something flexible I think Eastwood sells putty just for steering wheels ,maybe pc7 epoxy.jim

Test fit the horn bar too. I sorta recall there were some wheels that needed a bit of work there.
