Hi staring to work on our 65 gs coupe white interior and looking at the inside of the back window lower by package tray and sail panels the metal is wrapped in vinyl? On a chevelle that trim is just painted what is right for this .might  be the reason why  the sail panels are sticking out Abit wish could post a picture  of this.  Jim

Jim,

  The area tat you are inquiring about , is not suppose to have vinyl. It is just painted. As for the color, we need some input from members with white interiors in hardtops and post cars.

Jim, sounds like you are making progress! On my white interior hardtop the steel package tray hold down is painted gray and the package tray itself is gray with the padded lip also being gray! The gray is dark and would be the same color as the dash and steering column! I will try and post a few pictures!?

Not the best picture but if you look close at the column you can see the dark gray color! Still looking for package self pictures

Hi Loren - I may be missing the full context of the discussion which I do quite often, but I do recall some red spray in that area on mine during disassembly (2 dr coupe white with black top and maroon interior). It seemed odd to me at the time becasuse I thought all that area was covered by trim. Perhaps that is not the case. I will search though some pictures.

Hello Dwaine,

  Your car having a red interior would require the area at the inside bottom of the rear window ,which is the topic, be painted red. The package tray fits under this piece.
A black interior would be black, blue interior , blue, so on and so on. I imagine a white interior would be painted gray, now that I have thought about it.

Hi started pulling the interior out once i get far enough  I'll peel the vinyl  off and get a closer look .Jim

Hi ,I peeled the vinyl off and found it was painted white  don't know if it's  factory paint as the car was repainted . Then the trim by the back window would be white,  corners white with  just the metal being grey .jim
