Today I attended the annual Muscle Car Show at the Gilmore Auto Museum in Hickory Corners, MI. This was hosted by a local club, the West Michigan Muscle Cars Club, and about 250 cars were shown. Feature models for this year’s event were the Oldsmobile 442 and the Buick Gran Sport. So I took both of my Gran Sports. My friend Bob drove the red car and Joel rode to the event with him. Glenn Vinz also joined us, making the trip from Ohio in his 65 GS.
There were many other categories of models and years and the attendees were asked to pick their top two in each category. There were sadly only a total of about 10 cars in the feature category. Our three 65 GSs, 65 & 69 Olds 442s, a 69 GS400 and a couple of other Cutlasses. I was hoping to see many more vintage Buicks at the meet.
At the end of the day, very surprising to me, the Verde Howitzer won the top award, Best of Show. This was unexpected at this type of show, but gladly accepted and appreciated.
I think this will be the last car show for the year and even though the car only got to two events this summer, I’m pleased that it was appreciated as much as it was.
:cheers2:

Well deserved (again), Chuck. Surprised? Your Verde Howitzer is museum quality! Although I'm glad you are getting out and about in events like this - they deserve to be out in the open when displayed at events targeting what they are and attended by folks who appreciate what goes into those restorations. Yours is a most excellent example.

Congratulations! So much going on in your state now! Hot Rod Drag Week and the Pure Stock Muscle Car Drags also coming up! Car guy heaven!
-
Awesome job Chuck , Congrats !
Looking sweet
-
No surprise here. As I’ve said before you’ve created the gold standard for 65 Gran Sport cars.
Well done Chuck, you’re going to need a larger trophy case.
-
Nice win Chuck! Congrats.
-
More nice hardware! :headbang:
-
Congratulations Chuck! I'm not surprised, the award was well deserved!
-
Congradulations Chuck ! :icon_thumright:

Congratulations Chuck! :hello2:
As Kevin so rightly put it:
As I’ve said before you’ve created the gold standard for 65 Gran Sport cars.
Cheers, Edouard :occasion14:

Congratulations Chuck! :cheers2:

Once again...Congratulations :occasion14:
Did you have to put your top down...to fit that trophy in the GS ? :blob7: :laughing7:
-
Great Job, Congratulations!
-
Chuck, Congrats on the big win! Rewards for the effort you have put into the Verde Howitzer.
AACA Senior in 2022?

That is great Chuck! I am excited about seeing it at an AACA show next year. Where you gonna put that huge trophy?
-
Thanks all for the responses. To answer a few questions....
- The award was comfortable laying on the back seat of the red convertible...with the top up
- The award is currently displayed on the bar counter near the kitchen. I've been told it needs to move soon...it's not getting the same respect as the Buick Heritage Award :dontknow:
- If there's a trophy room to be created, it will surely be in my shop based on the above reaction from the boss. If so, I'll build it tall enough for this latest award :laughing7:
- Yes, I hope to have it judged for AACA Senior next year, as well as at the BCA meet in Illinois.
I just looked at the pictures again and chuckled when I discovered that in the picture with the award, I'm holding it backwards. :BangHead: A better picture is attached.
Thanks again. You guys all share in the success of the car with the parts, advice and experience shared!
:cheers2:
