Title: 65 GS 401 Carb Step Up Rods
Post by: Arthur on July 29, 2021, 12:17:40 PM
During my last carburetor rebuild I messed up and put a slight bend in the Step up rod on the original AFB 3922S Carburetor. I was able to straighten it but not perfect but works smoothly. I have the feeling the Rods need to be replace but do not know what came from the factory. The Rods are smooth with a taper, no steps. I been looking at rods on line and there are so many sizes I'm lost. Had this car since it was new in 65. The car runs fine with this rod seems OK but not certain in the long run.

Arthur,

Sorry, I can't help with your question on the carburetor rods, but just want to encourage you to post pictures of your original-owned 65 GS.  Unless I've missed them, I'm sure we'd all love to see some pix!

 :cheers2:

Chuck

Here's a photo of one of the rods out of my all original 3922S. Upper rod measures .080 and lower part measures .0625. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the pictures! Very original under the hood! I think your car is one of two that are black over red with a saddle interior that I have seen! I see you have a consolette and the shifter also has the shift pattern on the the ball and is not solid black!?

Shifter ball is the one that came on the car, never been changed.

A little extra info...The primary jets on my 3922S carb are 120-256 = .092" This is from my 1965 GS with #'s matching LR 401 and 3 speed manual transmission. I measured the rods wrong, should be upper .0695 and lower .0625". The part number is 16-219.
