Dear mid-60s Buick parts hounds,
I came across this puzzling eBay listing while doing my "usual rounds:"
https://www.ebay.com/itm/265204227374 (https://www.ebay.com/itm/265204227374)
They are described as (and I quote:) "1965 BUICK SKYLARK GRAN SPORT HOOD ORNAMENT TRI SHIELD EMBLEM INSERTS GS PAIR"
They are expensive at $99.99, but they certainly look extremely well made. Here is a photo from the ad:
further quoting from the ad: "Beautiful anodized aluminum pair have been USA remanufactured to exact original specifications. Pictures show NOS beside the newly USA made. You will LOVE these. Not to be confused with tin foil inserts."
Does anybody know "da' suspect" behind these new reproductions?
A curious mind would like to know!
Cheers, Edouard :occasion14:

They look pretty good!

I saw those earlier as well, and thought the same (they look very authentic). I see now that they are sold. Hope someone on this forum was able to snatch them up. If so, would be good to know once they are delivered how they really look.
-
Doesn't Cars or another provider have a decent set of these at a more reasonable cost? I seem to remember a thread on them here.
-
I got mine from Cars, worked and looks great for around 25.00 bucks I think?
-
I had the Cars ones too but have not put them on.
-
I was able to buy one set when they were a bit cheaper. The quality is really good IMO. Very clear details and crisp lines. The backer is 3M not some off brand. I wasn't disappointed and overall seemed worth the $$. I had considered having my originals repainted and may still do that as spares.

Dear Jim, 65GSconv, Good Dr., Harle, Don, and mid-60s Buick caregivers,

Well, it appears that the seller had a batch of these reproductions made. The item is relisted:

I was hopeful that this was not simply a one-off production. So those who want a premium look still have the choice.

I think it depends on what your expectations for the car and exactly what condition the exterior is in. For lots of guys on this forum, the CARS foils are "just right" in terms of looks and price point. The CARS foils will satisfy most visitors at a car show and definitely leave no confusion that your car is a Buick.
On the other hand, there are perfectionists like me who really appreciate the sharp look of the original Buick foils. I had mine repainted thanks to Loren and still admire them every time I pass my trusty wagon in the garage. We are extremely lucky in a way. For a while we had no choices for these foils - now we have two! :sunny:

Does anyone have the website link to CARS?

I don't know. I have a set of the Car's foil's on a Senior Gold car and everyone seems impressed with them.
-
The One?s a got from Cars look just has good as the $$ ones imho.
-
Except for the quality of the photos (which are different), I see a difference. I think it is a matter of preference for the owner to determine how the differences in appearance and price are considered for them as to what is acceptable for them. I suspect judged cars are at the mercy of an individual judge whether such a difference is observed and noted.
-
I have a nos one and a Car's one, so I guess I had better compare them side by side.
-
The foil ones have a little different in colors and the definition of the symbols of the shields is not as crisp but they are very nice! Got to remember foil that is stamped will shape differently then the anodized aluminum of the original!!

This is from the seller of the hood ornament color inlays he's selling:
These are NOT foils. They are anodized aluminum as originally made by GM. We are the source that commissioned them made.
I'm not being paid a commission by the eBay seller. Just trying to describe what he is selling vs. CARS. If it helps anyone make a decision if they were interested in purchasing these inlays.
