I am removing a malfunctioning tilt column and replacing it with a non-tilt Special from a 1965 automatic car. Things were looking good until I discovered the steering wheels are somewhat different. Anyone know where I can get the parts to make this work.

So I take it you have the Special steering wheel but not the cancellation cam and no hardware! A Skylark wheel bolts up! Are you wanting to possibly sell the tilt? Or get it repaired?

Not sure what you are inquiring .
As Jon stated, the steering wheels fit either, with a couple of exceptions. One exception is how the canceling works and the other is the horn contact. I should have the parts necessary.

I need the part, or parts, between the turn indicator switch and a Skylark wheel, non/tilt. Any help appreciated.

I think I have the correct parts. I took pictures of them and also of a straight column with the steering wheel removed.
Our internet is on the fritz and I am not able post pictures from my phone. Hopefully the internet will be fixed and I will be able to get the pictures up for you.

Thank you Loren. Looking forward to getting this issue resolved.

Finally got internet after 4 days. :hello2:
Here are a couple of pictures.
First picture as you can see the horn contact/ signal cancel is sitting on top of the steering bowl. [ picture is rotated 90*] There is suppose to be a spring with a contact that goes inside. Missing in action. I think the spring is available on line. I've seen them, just not recalling where.
Second picture is with the horn contact / signal cancel installed with the heavy spring on top of that. The steering wheel goes in place next, followed with a washer and the nut. Once the steering wheel is on, the spring contact is installed , then the horn bar is plugged in and finally fasten the horn bar with the four screws.

Loren, or others, does the black round part in the picture look like it will hold my horn wires in place in the hole in the steering wheel? It looks like the white part will stick up into the hole from the column side, but something has to hold the crimped end of the two wires in place. The long plastic piece I removed looks like it will only work with a tilt column. Yep, it has only taken me two years to get this done. (Inline Tube part number is INL 12989)

Hi Kurt,
Apologies for the slow delay. I started a new chemo treatment 10 days ago that are every Wednesday. That takes up Wednesday and Thursdays seem to be a recovery day. Enough said about that. lol
I got some more pictures for you today.
The first picture is right after removing the steering wheel. Note the heavy spring that fits into the cancel cam.
Second picture is with the heavy spring removed and showing the cancel cam. The white cylinder part of the cancel cam is where the horn contact spring goes in. For some reason the spring is MIA. As been mentioned previously, a spring from a ball point pen will work or even the spring that you have in the parts from In-Line. The spring in that kit most likely will be the only thing you will use. I don't recall exactly if the black piece in the kit is correct size but it is not needed as the round piece on the horn bar fits in to the cancel cam over the ball point pen spring. [for lack of a better term] lol
The third picture shows the turn signal assembly. Note the copper contact to the side area. That is the second part of the horn contact and it completes the circuit. All these parts get pretty gummed up with dirt and grease from over the years. Much cleaning is needed. We should be used to that though. lol
Next post will have some more pictures and descriptions. Stay tuned

Part two!
Picture one is of the horn contact pieces for a TILT column and the cancel pin that is specific to a tilt column. These are all installed into the steering wheel prior to putting the steering wheel on. Non of these parts are used with a non-tilt column. Except the spring will work for the non-tilt.
Second picture shows the spring installed into the cancel cam. You do not need or use the brass contact piece from the kit you bought from In-Line. I wish the people selling aftermarket parts knew what they are selling! Oh well, enough on that.
Picture three shows the round plastic plug that is on the horn bar wiring snapped into the cancel cam. You should be able to feel it snap in place.
I choose to take these pictures on my table rather than assembling them into the column. I hope they make sense.

Kurt,
Do you need the cancel cam for the non-tilt column?
Attached are pictures of a very dirty cancel cam for a non-tilt column.

Dear Loren, Kurt, and 65GS.com community,

. . .
So sorry to hear Loren that you are back on chemotherapy. Us humans are certainly at a serious disadvantage because of the lack to replacement parts. I hope that your prognosis remains good.

Thank you, Edouard for your kind words and caring. You too have had a journey with cancer treatment.
So far I have had only minor side effects from my chemo treatment. It is amazing how fast the multiple myeloma came back. Early April everything looked good. About three weeks later there was a spike in my blood test results causing the new treatment. First round is eight weeks which will take me up to the week of the BCA National meet in Spokane, WA. I had been making plans to attend but that may be changing.

Loren,
The cancel cams I have came with a spring and contact piece. So do I need a different cancel cam?

Loren, I just reread your previous responses to my questions and, yes I do need a new cancel cam. It all makes sense now. Do you have one you want to part with? I found several on eBay including an expensive "NOS". I am leaning towards the NOS as most reproduction parts are flimsy and cheaply made.

Hello Kurt,
Yes, I have one available. I'll get it cleaned up. I will need an address for shipping. PM me with that.

Dear Kurt, Loren, and mid-60s Buick caregivers who occasionally need some care themselves,
Sorry, Kurt for distracting from your thread. I'm glad that you are finding the information you need to complete the conversion.

Sorry that you are suffering from a cancer recurrence. I hope indeed that you tolerate the chemo reasonably well. Alas, indeed BCA meetup might be more than you'll be able to handle. Sorry about that.
Best of luck,
Edouard

Thank you Edouard.
So far I have been doing well with only minor issues. Still have six more treatments to go in this first round.
Time will tell,
Loren
