Title: Proud to show off my seats I recovered myself!
Post by: GrandpaG on June 21, 2020, 09:59:00 AM
I recovered the seats myself, and installed new carpet, and cleaned the seatbelts (and installed new belts in the back seat) and new sound deadener under the carpet.

Looks really nice.

Is the top picture the "after", and the bottom picture the "before"?

Don't know if you drove it at all since your new installations - did you notice anything different regarding noise in the cabin after you put new sound deadening insulation under the carpet?

Yea bottom pic is the "before".  The seats had been recovered in the 80's maybe. The foam underneath had turned to hard dusty brick.  Car has glasspacks and is pretty loud - and I haven't driven it with the windows up yet!

Dear GrandpaG, 65GSconv, Jim, Robert, and mid-60s Buick interior decorators!

Great job on the seats!  I've heard it is a demanding and physical job to get the fabric to stretch to where it belongs.

. . .  cleaned the seatbelts (and installed new belts in the back seat) . . . .

I'm curious, so what did you install as rear seat belts?

Cheers, Edouard  :occasion14:

Nice job!
I did all the same things you did last year, plus the headliner. That was a pain! The car is quieter since the sound/heat shield.
Betcha have a new respect for the seat shop guys... hog rings, lots of hog rings.

It certainly is most impressive. I’m also curious what vender you purchased the materials from.

I ordered the seatcovers from YearOne.  It took a few months for the order to arrive.  I also got new foam and install kit from Legendary Auto Interiors.  The carpet was from OC Auto Carpet. One surprise about the carpet is you know how in pictures when people are selling carpet, it sort of looks like it's been pre-molded to contour to your floorpan?  Well the OC ones were NOT that, so making it look good and fit was difficult.  Maybe there is a better supplier out there in terms of fit/molded.   The 7-pc sound deadener kit was also from OC Auto Carpet.

I watched several seatcover install videos for various GM 1965 cars (over and over).  It was quite tedious and I took my time.
I had driven the car with no interior in in other than the drivers seat....and now with full interior it is obviously MUCH quieter. Until I stomp the gas that is....
