I am having a hard time trying to find a set of new hood hinge springs for my 65 Skylark
Here is a picture of one of my old ones along with dimensions.
22 coils, 7 1/2" overall, 4 3/4" coil length, 1 3/8 diameter.
I've searched just about every year GM from 1959 thru 1970.
One end flat the other straight up
Any Help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Jim

Anyone have dimensions on their springs?

Jim, give Wilson Antique Car Parts a call 434-259-2606.
One of the services they provide is rebuilding hood hinges. I had them rebuild a set for my 65 GS and was very pleased with the results. I think they should be able to help you or point you in the right direction.
I’m no hinge spring expert but are you sure your springs are bad or could it be the hinge assembly needs to be rebuilt.
I did see new Fusick has hood hinges for a 65 Cutlass. It is a very similar very simpler size hood.
Hope it helps.

Hi Jim,
The pictured spring appears to be correct. Mine have the exact same dimensions and number of coils.
Why do you need new ones? Wouldn't you have better luck finding used ones or restoring your old ones? The one in your picture appears to be in good shape...
I'm sure I've got a set of used ones around here if you need them.
:cheers2:

I see we're on the same wavelength, Kevin!

Jim, I have a set of hinges that are in good shape. One has a spring attached. $50.00 plus shipping. If interested pm me with your address so I can get a shipping cost.

First...thanks guys for all the suggestions.
The problem is when I open the hood fully, it sags down about 8 to 10 inches.
So my first thought was try new springs. My springs are in good looking condition.
I'll give the hinges a closer look.

I had the same issue. If the rivets in the hinge wear and get a little sloppy the hood will sag and cause problems with alignment.

I agree and second Kevin's recommendation of Wilson Antique Car Parts. They did a really nice job rebuilding my hinges.
Keep us posted!
