Hello,
This is my next restoration.
Pulled from a farm shed in Madison VA last week. (long trip...)
A straight, solid, all original (paint too!!), optioned 65 Skylark.
The body just needs the lower rear quarters replaced. Wolf Steel restorations has them (Canada)
Frame and floors are solid.

4 barrel, buckets, and posi rear.
Not highly optioned, but three I would have picked!!

I am still on the fence on drivetrain for this one.
I have a 401/ST300 combo, I could use. I also, still have a nice, automatic console, with tach. BUT...
I have also been thinking, a strong rebuild on the original 300 4 barrel, and upgrading to a 4 speed automatic. (with console)
Glasspacks and A/C upgrade, to make it a highway cruiser, and, still fun to blast around town!!

Don't forget the wire wheel covers they were optional too! I have always liked the way they look on the Skylarks and Special Deluxe models! Looks like a very good car to start with! A non molested non wrecked car is always better in my book! Good luck with the restoration! We will follow along ! As your post car sure came out nice! Now you just need a convert! To go with the post and hardtop!

Nice find, 401 as you know requires special 65/66 GS only engine mounts and exhaust manifolds, if you got them it's a fun combo
Also trans has to be a nailhead pattern, different from a BOP
300 4v is a nice performer as well, not bad on mpg for long distance travel
The st300 on either will be a limited performance due to the 1.76? first gear, a th400 2.48 or a th350 2.52 and 200r4 2.72? will have better off the line performance.
The 300/355 might work nice with a 200r4, one from a GN, Monte SS or 442 as better guys and power levels closer to what the trans will hold, otherwise they are pricey to rebuild, I have one getting built for a Olds 455 and it's in the 3 grand price range.
You could always do a stick conversion, all fun even in a 300 car, have a 4 door 4 speed with 3.23 fun combo

I had seen only the other style. At first, I thought they came off another year and model. They are all there, and, in great shape.
I am going to do this one, in white, w/red interior. So, if anyone has any good interior parts, they want to sell, let me know.
I believe, the 300 small block, with the TH2004R transmission, and 3.73:1 rears.
I'm gonna save the 401/ST300 for the convertible. I agree. I will need a drop top, too. (maybe an actual GS, this time...)
I will just need another console..... :occasion14:

I really enjoy driving my trusty wagon with her 200-4R transmission. It gives you a lot of the comfort of a modern car. When I was looking into all this, indeed the fuel economy of the 300 with an overdrive transmission was supposed to be surprisingly good.
A little more info for you to ponder!
