Our very own Mike Jones (Jonesy) was invited to show his un-restored 65GS 4-speed car at the Boca Raton Concours d'Elegance this past weekend. Jay Leno was one of the show hosts and gave two of his Big Dog awards--one to a car and one to a motorcycle. Mike got the Big Dog car award. For those that are not aware, Jay's first car in high school was a 65GS 4-speed hardtop.

Jay Leno is as Uber a car-guy as they come! That's definitely a once in a lifetime experience!
Cheers, Edouard :occasion14:

Thank you to Brian for the recognition and to all of you for the congratulations. I have just come home from 4 days in Boca, my old stomping grounds. I was accepted into this years Concours show in the Preservation class. I was one of 5 cars and received an "Excellence in Class" award, the winner being a 70 Eldorado with a repaint???? Don't understand that one, anyhow, as Brian mentioned I received Jay Lenos' Big Dog award which is a gorgeous Tiffany Glass bowl with etching on both sides.
He told me it was a big chocolate. I got a chance to speak with him for awhile, you could tell he had an affinity for the car, it was special to him I guess because he had one in high school. Overall, the show was nothing like I have ever experienced before. The rarity of some of the cars was unimaginable. Just to name a few,
1967 Camaro Z-28----0ne of 602 Z's for the 67 year.
1964 Mustang pace car, the owner had pics of Edsel Ford in the car on the day of the Indianapolis 500 in 1964. This was THE first car made available to the public, number 241, the rest were all prototypes or show cars.
Anyhow, the list goes on and on. I am still on cloud 9, one of the most memorable experiences of my life, for sure.

Semper Fi Kevin, and thank you.

I am trying to post a video, any idea how to make it a link for viewing or how to resize it without losing quality?
-

Tony,
Yes, I bought this car from Dan in August of 2012. Haven't done much to it at all, 50,350 miles.

Thanks John, Milton,
I'm glad for all of us for the recognition. I sure wish I could get the videos posted here. If anyone has a You Tube account and wouldn't mind uploading it, I can email the videos and you can post them here for me? One thing I will say, when I round the corner after receiving the award and I'm stopped there for a bit, the camera angle on the car shows just how bad ass the body style really is....

does anyone know if Jay has a 65GS in his collection? If that was his first car I would guess that he does.
-
Outstanding, Marine! Oorah!

I met Jay Leno at the All GM Show in Van Nuys, CA a few years ago. He was very interested in my 65 GS, and told the same story about it being the first car he ever bought new. Turns out it was the same color as my car (Burgundy Mist), but not a convertible. He had a lot of questions about my car. I took a picture of him with my older son in front of the car, I need to find that picture. Great guy to talk to, seen him at a number of other car shows over the years, and he always brings something interesting.

He told me his GS was burgundy mist. I wish I could post this video. He mentions having wrapped that GS around a tree.

Very cool ???? ! Jay knows quality! And mentions how nice the body style is! Even if others don't! We have a true car guy who does! And he doesn't have just one brand or certain years in his collection! I first saw that he had a 65 GS as his first new car in this paper article!
-
Thanks for posting, maybe that's why he picked mine out of all of those perfect cars?
-
Just in case anyone cares.......

Thanks John, I just happen to be the current lucky caretaker of this example. I am blessed that things have worked out for me the way they have, in all aspects of my life.
