Post by: GranSportSedan on January 18, 2019, 05:12:41 PM
anything special about the 65-66 Skylark GS power steering boxes compared to a skylark or special steering box?

I just checked the 1966 parts book..... it's the same box for Special-Skylark and GS.
Group 6.508
5694710 for manual box
5696114 for power

The Riv and Wildcat GS's have a faster ratio box than standard.

I'm sure you know (but others here may not) the GS has a different steering column with removable flange.

Walt,
thanks for looking that up. i'm probably going to use the manual steering box I have so I can keep the engine compartment as sanitary and uncluttered as possible.  on the upside I will exercise my arms every time I drive the car..lol

Manual boxes can be a workout, especially when parking. Skinny front tires and a big steering wheel help ease the pain.
There are fast ratio manual boxes out there, I believe it was an option on the early GTO.
