Hello,
I did the 4 speed conversion
1965 skylark 300 motor
Parts from donor car same year Bw T-10 4 speed.
Al went well except upon start up I have a rattle that will disappear if clutch is depressed or if car is put in gear.
Please help find solution.
Thanks,
Robert

Check the throw out bearing!?
-
My first thought also.
-
Thanks,
The noise is hollow sounding and seems to be internal transmission case.
When drive train is disengaged no sound.
Rattling (sounds like rock bouncing around moving parts), if clutch released in neutral or any gear.
Gonna pull and bring to shop.
Any recommendations or cost estimate to rebuild 53 year old T-10
Need good shop Long Island New York.
Thanks,
Robert

Larry Fischer. D & L transmission. He is in East Huntington. He is the best in the country for building 4-speeds. Has a shop at his house. Tell him that Brian Stone in NC sent you. You are fortunate to live close to him.

Thank You
I will call him on Tuesday

Hello,
The conversion is finished.
The BW T-10 had an internal issue fixed by Larry Fischer (D&L transmissions) Long Island N.Y.
I highly recommend his services.
My 1965 Skylark is now dialed in and is a blast to drive.
The 4 speed conversion was over 20 hours of labor and worth every minute.
I now have a dream car. Thanks for your assistance.
A few photos attached.

Congrats!
What was the problem with the trans?
The 5 speed swap into my '66 Special was the best mod I did to the car. I enjoy driving it so much more than when it had the automatic.

3rd gear broken and cluster replaced

Looks great! Glad to hear Larry got your trans up and running. I have an original 65 cig lighter on my workbench if you are interested.

I would love to do this to my car. If you don't mind me asking, what was the total cost ($s for parts, hours for labor) to make this conversion?
Keith

I did all work, so no labor expense.
All parts total about $2,250.00
Some of the parts were only available 2nd hand.
It took about 20-25 hours labor.
In my opinion it was worth doing, now my 1965 Skylark convertible is my dream car.

If you are considering the conversion for your Gran Sport convertible be aware that Roberts car is a 300 V8 and consequently cost a lot less than yours would.

Keith?from your signature, you have a GS, which has the 401 engine. 4-speed conversion on that is a compleetly different deal than the 300 skylark Robert just did. Parts much more rare and expensive for GS

Dear Robert and mid-60s Buick caregivers,
Here are some additional pics after the 4 speed conversion.
Manual transmissions aren't my cup of tea, but you did a very nice job!
Thanks for sharing your experiences!
Cheers, Edouard :occasion14:
