GM used several different dipsticks on the 401 engines. The differences were due to the various oil pans - rear sump, middle sump, etc. Is your 401 in a ‘65 Gran Sport ?

Hi Dan, It is an AC car. The dipstick is actually fine but it is missing the piece that seals it at the block. Any suggestions if you do not have one ?  Thanks for the reply.  Al

Dan,  On another note I have a question. I have a dual quad set up for a 401. The manifold is fine and the carbs need rebuilt. I do not have the linkage. I am looking to sell it and am not sure what it's worth . Any ideas ?  Thanks again.

Al, the rubber seal can be replaced. There's a dimple in the stick.... flatten that enough to allow the metal cap to slide over it, replace the rubber with some tubing the correct size, then slide the metal cap back and use a punch to restore the dimple.

Prices for the 2x4 manifolds keep going up. $400-$550 is common. Carb pricing depends on condition, could be a few hundred each if they're decent. Linkage is reproduced, and the fuel lines were also but don't know if they are still available.

From what I have seen on eBay recently $500 would be a minimum for a nice intake. Have seen them going for up to $750.

Back to the dipstick. What is the part number of the 401 stick? Had several, don't remember if they are for a center sump pan or a rear sump pan

Not sure of the number. I'll check. It is a rear sump pan. Thanks
