65 Gran Sport Division Car Season Kickoff !

This is a fun kick off to the car season, hoping many can join us. Rob is looking for a rough estimate / head count. It does not have to be an exact number but it would be nice to know a rough estimate.
Rob and I corresponded and I am forwarding his invitation.
" I think I am in good shape for set up. I can get a couple of tables and some chairs and I also will have burgers and Brats as well as potato salad, beans and potato chips. If anyone wants to bring a salad or some fruit or a dessert that would be great."
Location and time:
The address for Rob's shop is 5520 West Main St, Maple Plain Minnesota. Maple Plain is a small outer suburb/town about 10 miles west of 494 on 394/hwy 12 (394 becomes highway 12). Stay on 12 until you are in the town of maple plain. There is a stoplight on the east end of town and a stoplight on the west end of town. Take a left (south) at the light on the west end of town. This is Halgren. Drive 150 yards over the bridge and take the first left. This is west main. Drive 150 yards and the shop is on the left.
For those unfamiliar with the area, the Twin Cities have a interstate loop around them which is 694 to the North and East Side and 494 on the South and West side of the twin cites. It's basically just a large circle around the whole metro. Hwy 12/394 is at the middle of the west section of the loop. Directions:
Coming from the north, on 94 you would exit onto 494 heading south at the suburb of maple grove and drive about 10 minutes to 394. Exit to westbound 394 which immediately becomes highway 12. follow directions above.
Coming from the south on 35 or 169 you would get off on 494. west on 494. Get off on 394 westbound (which immediately becomes highway 12) and follow directions above.
From the East take 94 through the cites. At the west end of Minneapolis get on 394 westbound. Once you cross under 494, 394 becomes highway 12 and you just follow the directions above.
Starting time will be 1:00 PM

I have a conflict this year but will try to swing by for a while.

I would like to come down this year, but my employer might disown me for requesting more work schedule changes. Already have all my vacation time blocked out for later this year.
Besides, with the weather patterns happening around the TC area lately, there might be blizzard conditions! :icon_biggrin:

To help with the head count, unfortunately I will not be in attendance. :sad1: I'm planning to be as active as I can this season but the 11+ hour drive is just a little too long for me. I hope everyone in attendance has a wonderful time and yes please take and post lots of photos.

Normally we are able to park our cars on the grass in the land next to the shop. Currently that area is covered with two feet of snow (no kidding). Before this snow hit it was very wet and soft and this snow storm is of no help. We need some dry weather or we might be parking on the road. No matter what, the party is going forward but this year we might do a mud run or a tractor pull in my yard (kidding).

Thank you for your reply. I realize that the long drive makes it difficult, sorry you'll not be able to attend. Maybe the Ohio event in the fall work out.
Our drive isn't as far, we have about an 8.5 - 9 hour drive for getting back to the Twin Cities. Still have family there so it makes a difference and this most likely will be one of the few car events I will be able to attend this year.

Keith Anderson and I plan on coming over Saturday after finishing up the Extravaganza setup at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds.
This year will be a little different for set up because the fairgrounds will have a different car group putting on a car show on Saturday and not Sunday.
We heard the entry fee for this new Saturday show is something like $50 with contests like burn outs and such.
It will be interesting to see how they do.

Rob, I have actually thought about staying on the road that weekend and trying for a load somewhere close by. Then I checked Google Maps to see if there's a way to back my tractor trailer down your street! :icon_biggrin: It does look possible. :glasses9:

Yes, I plan to be there, however I will not have my GS. I need my pickup truck to haul materials and tools for another construction project at Mom's house earlier in the week. Always a good time with old and new friends.

what time should we start this party? Last year official start time was 1:00 but it was pretty quiet until about 2:30. I will be there all day but does anyone have a suggestion on what works best?

I thought the 2x4 was just a demo piece.
The cakes sure weren't. They were great.
Rob really put on another great get together.
It keeps getting bigger and bigger every year.
Thanks to everyone that had a chance to join in on the fun.
Just a reminder the Extravaganza is always the first Sunday in May so mark your calendars for next year.
Also keep your eyes open for announcements on the next fall get together this year in Ohio.

Being a '65 GS-specific newbie, I just noticed in Mark's pix that the 'verts had the GS script on the rear flank while the HT's had them on the C-pillar. Man, it looks good on the fender! If I had a GS HT I'd take it off the roof and relocate it.
Not saying anybody else should, or that it's right or wrong...just something I noticed.
