Title: Pulley Washer Color
Post by: cwmcobra on March 08, 2018, 02:18:22 PM
Here's a strange question for the gang.  For the big washer that is bolted inside the crank pulley to the damper; what color should it be?  When I dissembled my engine, it appeared to be about the same as the pulley, so I painted it the same black as the restored pulley.  And I see that Mark Ascher's washer is painted black in the picture I have of his engine.  However, the engine section of the '65 brochure shows all of them to be a silver color.  Pictures attached.  Any advice/experience on what the proper color of the washer should be?

Also, in doing a bit of research on this, I ran across a note in the assembly manual that the embossed timing numbers on the timing cover should be painted yellow.  Correct?

And that leads me to also ask, was the milled timing line in the damper painted?  Color?

Amazing what's coming up that I haven't thought much about before.....

Thanks!

Chuck

Chuck ,  not 100 % positive on the colors but I went with black zinc on the large bolt and the 6 small bolts . The large washer clear zinc .
I haven,t done the large pulley ring yet . This was according to Mark notes that i have .

Yeah Chuck , I haven,t done anything with my pulley washer yet either .
But according to your photo I might do one white zinc and one painted black , that way i,ll be covered .
especially since I still need to take a few more batches of parts in to get plated .
I,ll put on my engine whatever color you put on yours . LOL   :laughing7:

Oops, just looked at my engine and now remember I painted the engine with the damper on it, so the damper bolt and washer are simply painted engine color.  As best I can see in my 65 brochure, it appears that the damper bolt is engine color.

The pulley bolts are black zinc.
