Title: New user looking for hubcaps.
Post by: blueaggie on November 02, 2009, 09:58:49 AM
Hopefully, the picture is showing, but I'm looking for four Gran Sport spinner hubcaps with the skylark emblem in the hub.  This is my father's car and I've never attempted a restore before, but it's personal and I look forward to the challenge.  I've found the hubcap on ebay, but it's in bad condition and ridiculously expensive in other places.  Do any of you have ideas on where I could get it from?  None of the salvage yards in Charlotte, NC where I live seem to have anything.

Thanks, I look forward to the pics, and thanks for the welcome!  I attached some pics, I'd love feedback on how it compares to some other projects.  Should I prepare for second mortgage?!?

My name is James.

I want to clean up and tune the engine, same for the interior.  Also the chrome in the bumpers is worn a little bit, not much rust on the body, but I want to get it back to the way he had it in '65.  I thought I was going to have to do major work, but really it was a daily driver up until two years ago.  It took three hours to start when I tested last week, but once it was up she was ok.  I'm adding some engine pics to.

Nice car James!!
Good condition and a 4 speed!   Very cool car.  First thing I would do in the restoration is go burn those old tires off!
Good luck on the parts hunt.  Keep us posted with any progress.

James,

Great car - and a 4 speed too! You have an esteemed member of this forum and my good friend,
Mr. Brian Stone, living very close to you in Mocksville. He has a beautiful restored 65 HT 4 speed car.
"Brian" is his user name.
Welcome to the forum!

Mark

James,

Welcome to the club.    :occasion14:

How about getting your car registered in the 65 GS registry?

Would love to see another four speed car in there.

Hope to continue to see you around,

Chris

Well I was in my shed saturday morning and this is what I walked into. I will need an hour maybe tomorow if it doesn't rain to empty a few things out to get to them. I can see where they are just can't get to them. I'll try to get to them tomorow. Bare with me.

I might have a small issue.

Looks like the third stall in my garage!

By the way, what ever happend to the upcoming birthday of yours that was listed on the board then I never saw it say it was your birthday?

Did you send an urgent email and have him not list your birthday?  I was getting ready to bust your chops for being as old as me!

Dang!! I don't know how I missed it.  I was watching for it since I see that you are now as old as me!  I know I could have found a good south park carman birthday picture!

If you click on the calendar link at the top of the screen, it will list out your birthday if you entered the information when signing up.

I try to keep an eye on it and send out birthday wishes whenever possible.   :cheers2:

We need a birthday thread! Mine was Monday.  :glasses9: :occasion13:

About hub caps...I see them often at swap meets and on eBay. ALWAYS look closely at the condition. Many out there are pretty beat up.  There's a relatively flat area around the edge that gets hammered during installation.
I bought a set on ebay cheap that are not worth the effort to restore. At least they are good for Garage Art. :tongue3:

Prices are all over the place. Be patient, and wait for a good set at a fair price.

Cool Chris!
I just need to open my eyes a little and look at more than what's a new post.

By the way, I looked as far ahead as I could on the calender and I couldn't find the date of my car being finished or when I would get to buy a 65 four speed Gran Sport!  Bad oman.

Scorpios rule!!!!

I'm off tomorow, so if it's not raining I'll get to those caps for you.

I think they're pretty good if I remember right.
