Title: '65 Hood ornament Tri-Shield
Post by: Loren At 65GS on February 07, 2018, 10:54:31 AM
I recently ordered a Tri-Shield Decal from CARS.

I was curious as to whether it might fit the '65 Skylark hood ornament. Much to my surprise, it is a perfect fit ! The unfortunate thing is that it is designed to fit the front side only and there is not a reverse design available. They are not made of the same material as the original, so I think they will not hold up nearly as well. Pictures attached.

 Part number is D418.

Dear Loren and mid-60s Buick owners who love that Tri-Shield hood ornament.

I was curious as to whether it might fit the '65 Skylark hood ornament. Much to my surprise, it is a perfect fit !

Thanks for the info!  I heard somewhere that his was possible, but there is nothing like photographic confirmation.

Yes, this is definitely a "you get what you pay for situation."  Anyone looking for a really permanent solution should take advantage of your hood ornament recoloring service:

Still, the detail is a quick and budget-minded solution.  Also, this decal could be useful in customizing some aspects of your car's interior.  Inside the car, these decals should have a reasonable longevity.

Thanks again for posting the pictures!

Cheers, Edouard

I bought this one too a while back and can confirm. May be worth a call to Cars to see if they're interested in producing the reverse image. I'd imagine a couple coats of clear would help the durability. I've repainted these myself and this piece is far better than what I was able to accomplish.

I have already spoken to Jeff a CARS.  He seemed surprised that the Tri-Shield decal was a perfect fit. Maybe CARS will look into having the other one made.  :dontknow:

yep..fit nice..work nice..look good..not perfect..

i found them on the V8 site..a guy sold a hood emb with a new decal, i contacted him, and he sent me in the right direction...

i would beat on the cars guy, he already has the connection..

kinda kills the painting service offered here though......but theres diff levels of rebuilds and they both have a place

I have already started a conversation with Jeff at CARS.  Would not hurt for others to make inquiries as to the other side being available. If there is a seen interest, it may help to get the decal produced.

I'm not too worried about the repaint service. A part of the proceeds go to 65GS.com and the rest to the artist who does them. Also not everyone can justify the $$ to put into just a hood ornament.

 It's all good,
 Loren
