What are you guys doing for the harmonic balancers when rebuilding your nailheads ? Just reinstalling the originals if they look good or getting them rebuilt ? or has anyone bought a new one ? wondering how the new ones made , good quality or are they over seas junk .
Since I bought most of my engines in pieces I currently only have one used one and will be in need of at least one more .

I've heard of the rebuilding service... I think it was the DDr Mark mentioned.
There are aftermarket 455 dampeners that can be modified to fit. Likely not what you are looking for.

Sounds good , I,ll have to give them a call .
Thanks Mark and Walt .

Or maybe I'm thinking of the Damper Dudes?

How does one know if they need to be rebuilt? My engine was running fine when I tore it down and the balancer looked totally intact. I simply blasted and repainted the balancer before I intstalled it. Was that a mistake? If so, it's easy to remove now before I put the core support and front end into the car.

Chuck , besides the obvious rubber deterioration i,m not quite sure except for maybe checking it with a degree wheel some how .

I had one on my Fireball 225 V6 that would slip. It had a miss, after many hours of chasing distributor and wiring issues then struggling with the mighty single barrel carburetor. I noticed when checking timing if I reved it a bit the timing mark would change positions. I drew a witness line across the damner with a felt tip and discovered the slippage.
After that I’d set timing with a vacuum gauge. Now after discovering this service I’ll get it fixed.
Gosh, I love this site.

John,
Found the balancers. I have three that are for sale. I compared four balancers and all have the timing mark in the same spot in relation to the keyway. My thought is that they are all good. I did notice that the dowels for balancing are not all in the same positions compared to each other.
I also have crankshaft nuts and washers. Oil slinger if you need that as well.
