I'm Ian. I've got a '65 Skylark that I've ownedand been working on since the beginning of the new millenium.
It's a fun car, and my baby.
Nice to meet you all!
From CA

Welcome aboard,
Lots of good info here, incase you are restoring or even a driver.
Got any pictures of the ride?

By all means Ian welcome to 65GS.com! (http://www.canebas.org/WeatherCat/Forum_support_documents/Custom_emoticons/welcome_smiley.gif)
I think you'll find this forum a bit more relaxed and easy going from V-8 Buick, but people are really do car about mid-60s Buick and the people who own them. So do post a few photos and take in all the information you can get. There are some really comprehensive restorations going on right now and there is a lot to learn from others going through that process.
Once more welcome!
Cheers, Edouard :occasion14:

WOW! Thanks for all the welcomes. Bringing Ruthy the Skylark home was one of the best choices I ever made. My Dad and I had been looking for projects. Chevelles, etc, I like the square bodies. Then we stumbled on Ruthy, had a chat with the owner. Then took a step back to consider. We both looked at her from a distance and said 'Now THAT is one good-looking car'
Ruthy was a project for the owner's husband, who passed. She wanted the car to go to a good person, so she enlisted the head of the local chapter in Los Gatos, CA. He agreed to sell the car for her.
And Ruthy was the little old lady who owned the car prior to them. That is where her name comes from.
I did most all the work, including paint. I had a bit of a health crises a few years back, but still kept her. Now I mostly just drive but do some light projects here are there. Now mostly just grateful and not too worried about making more projects.
Mark: yep this is the one!

Hi Iain and mid-60s Buick lovers, :love4:
Thanks for sharing Ruthy's story! I always like when a car gets a name. That makes him/her more a part of the family.
Do post any other pictures you might have, or better still, try to get Ruthy out and take some more! The weather should be nice this weekend across all of California.
Cheers, Edouard :occasion14:
P.S. Sorry for misspelling your name on my first posting. I think my speller checker "fixed" what wasn't broken!

And another Welcome from NYC, Great looking Skylark !! Post more photos...

Ruthy in the hills
(http://www.canebas.org/WeatherCat/Forum_support_documents/Custom_emoticons/wink_smile_triangle.gif) . . . There is just one thing wrong with that picture - it is all by itself! . . . . You've just gotta take more of them!! :blob7:
Yep, I'm sufferin' for a serious case of classic car pic withdrawal! . . . :BangHead:
Cheers, Edouard :occasion14:

Very sharp 65 you have Ian. Welcome from Manitoba, Canada eh. I used to own two 65 Gran Sports but sold them a few years ago.

Not the best background here.
But nice after an early spring cleaning.

Ruthy is a lucky lady to get such great care! Truly TLC!

But nice after an early spring cleaning.
Yes indeed Ruthy looks great! :hello2:
Not the best background here.
Alas no, Ruthy is reminding us why some cars are really classic (http://www.canebas.org/WeatherCat/Forum_support_documents/Custom_emoticons/Angelic_smiley_small.gif) while others are . . . . . . . . . well, not exactly! . . . . :laughing7:

Dear Iain and mid-60s Buick caregivers,
Bringing Ruthy the Skylark home was one of the best choices I ever made.
Here in the San Francisco Bay area, we are on the northern fringes of the current atmospheric river (http://www.noaa.gov/stories/what-are-atmospheric-rivers) event. Santa Barbara is essentially straight in the cross-hairs. Given the previous landslide disaster, I couldn't help but hope that Ruthy is safe and sound even with all the rain. Ronnie and a few other Buick brothers are also down in the southland. I do hope everybody is safe in this very unusual deluge for California.
Cheers, Edouard

Yes, she is for sure safe. I live a few miles from the foothills, and in this area they are rocky. They don't look to have slid, ever really.
When I first moved to this area, people would tell me that it doesn't rain often, but when it does....
and that's the Pineapple Express. Sub-tropical moisture. I am nervous for those living 100 miles south of me, but at the same time grateful for this rain. Up until now, we have been as dry as the desert. After last year's deluge, still remaining in stage 4 drought.
And last year, I had her stored outside at a facility. She filled up with an inch of water. Not this year, no, she's dry and happy in the garage.

Dear Iain and California Buick owners who know "when it rains it pours!"

Yup, my trusty wagon had to slug through those Pineapple Express rains even before the researchers gave them a new name - Atmospheric Rivers!

*Sigh* ditto on that as well. We aren't as bad off in the north, but it is expected that we will be back in a drought condition by the end of spring. We are running about 1/2 of normal rainfall up here.
And last year, I had her stored outside at a facility. She filled up with an inch of water. Not this year, no, she's dry and happy in the garage.
Well, Biquette isn't happy without an engine, but she also is dry in the garage. Our 2000 Buick Century is her stable-mate but isn't so lucky and will have to brave at least some of the wet this week.
Be safe!
Cheers, Edouard :occasion14:

Welcome Ian. Another greetings from Ohio. Sorry I was late to the party; somehow I missed this post. BTW very nice car! (I'm partial to white or so I've been told)

Welcome from LA. You did a great job. Love the color, and we'll everything :rocker:
-
Hi Jerry, hi Psalm 65.
Partial to white too. Had to think about it. I like white on all cars really.
Why? I think because it sets off body lines well that are easy to see. And a good contrast the environment. But I like lots of other colors too.
And Psalm, a BIG motor there. That will be awesome.
-
Dear Iain, Ronnie, Jerry, and mid-60s Buick owners who like to drive!
The rain should be long gone in your parts of CA. Hopefully you'll have a little time to get Ruthy out to play!
Cheers, Edouard :occasion14:

YUP! Just took her out for a good long drive, my favorite kind, through windy roads about 50-60mph. She is running good. My engine is nothing to brag about, probably makes 250HP, but with my updated suspension and good rubber she is a real pleasure to drive.
Though I must say my sore back could really use some lumbar support. :sad1:
Edouard what's going on with your engine? Any progress yet?
-
Sounds like fun! Some people have ad good luck changing to Procar seats and they almost match the 65 interiors.

There are ways to surpass that!!! . . . (http://www.canebas.org/WeatherCat/Forum_support_documents/Custom_emoticons/car_3gears.gif)
but with my updated suspension and good rubber she is a real pleasure to drive.
Updating the suspension is definitely a good idea. I'm going to have some of that done when Biquette gets her new tires and rear end. The roads are getting so bad around here it is basically a requirement.
Though I must say my sore back could really use some lumbar support. :sad1:

Not sure what to tell you on that. Just having Biquette's seats repaired and reupholstered made a huge difference.
Edouard what's going on with your engine? Any progress yet?
No word since last report. I suspect the Easter holiday is increasing TA-Performance sales and that is once more squeezing their free time. I'm not ready for the engine's return anyway, so it is no problem, but I thought I could touch base next week just to see what's up.
Glad Ruthy got to play! (http://www.canebas.org/WeatherCat/Forum_support_documents/Custom_emoticons/roadster%20blue.gif)

Dear Iain and mid-60s Buick owners who stroll down memory lane,
Dug up a couple photos from when I first got her, year 2000.
Complete with 14" pizza cutters and *oldsmobile* hubcaps.
Thanks for sharing! Isn't it amazing how much sharper images have gotten in just 18 years? I see that Ruthy had her original black California license plates. Were you able to keep them or not?
Cheers, Edouard :occasion14:
